Great gift for young boys. My 9 yo son loved it

Love these books. Full of interesting facts and cool things to know. Purchased original for 8 year old son, 10 years ago and he still reads it. Purchased the Canadian version for 7 yr old grandson, who also enjoys it very much, when he can wrestle it away from the adults!

My son loves this book. Soo many good thing to make and also full of history and general knowledge facts.

I am so happy that I ordered the UK edition of this delighful book. Otherwise, I should never have known about what constitutes a first-rate conker; that the best cricket bats are made of willow; or that one can tap the bark of the English hawthorn for its spring sap--three golden nuggets amongst a wealth of fascinating topics. I was also delighted to renew my acquaintance with the Kings and Queens of England and to peruse the maps of changing Britain from Roman times until the Norman conquest. This wonderful compendium of unrelated snippets of information (from codes and cyphers to questions about the universe) reminds me of the old St. Nicholas magazines (handed down from my older brother) that I devoured as a little girl. Such subjects aroused my curiosity then, made me ask questions, and want to learn more about all manner of things. And that is the "dangerous" aspect of this book; that a child, be it boy or girl, will have his curiosity aroused, ask questions, and then go on to read more--whether about the seven wonders of the world, the Latin origins of words or how to marble paper and build paper airplanes--and in the process, even come to love learning for its own sake. As a consequence, he--or she--will never be bored!
