Doesn't sharpen very well and is a lot smaller than it looks. Not recommended.

I must admit that I was very skeptical about this sharpener before trying it. The price point along with the method it used to sharpen had me curious as to the quality of the edge that it would produce. Since opening the package I have been able to put the sharpener through a gauntlet of tasks. The first task was to sharpen six Old Hickory paring knives which we use as steak knives. My initial reply was”Wow”. I was very impressed with the speed, ease and quality of the edge. Yes the knives are carbon steel and sharpen relatively easily, however the pivot pro really made quick work of the bunch. With no more than right passes on the carbide cutter and three on the ceramic the knives were extremely sharp. This is a huge plus being that they full so quickly cutting on dinner plates. The next task I completed was to sharpen all of our knives at the Firehouse. At first I was only going to do several and at the end I sharpened all of them mainly because it was so quick and easy. So , who is this sharpener for? I would say everyone. I am a knife collector and there are definitely some knives that I will only sharpen a certain way by a certain means. I have traditionally used the Work Sharp Ken Onion edition with the blade grinding attachment and that system works beyond great. The only drawback is it is normally a small event setting it up and working through the different grits. The pivot pro is down and dirty and gets it done with little fuss. The sharpener is perfect for the kitchen drawer, the shop, the truck or where ever you need a quick razor edge and a convex edge at that.

This is a great little sharpener and knife maintenance tool! It is very small and compact and great for quick blade touch-ups. Works great on the more budget friendly blade steels, like 8Cr13MoV. Haven't tested it with any of the tougher steels yet so not sure how well it would perform there. The small size does mean that it will take a little more work to sharpen some larger knives. However, I was able to use this small tool to put a shaving sharp edge back on my Gerber Flatiron and Kershaw Shuffle II in about 10 minutes. Having the typical pocket knife sized Torx bits built in is great for quick tightening of the pivots and spacers as needed. The very small T-6 bit is a little soft so I needed to use extra care when working with that size but if you are careful enough to make sure the bit is fully seated you shouldn't have too many worries about rounding off the bit or the screw. But since these are standard sized bits it's not too difficult to replace them if needed. Extremely happy with this budget and pocket friendly knife maintenance tool!
