A fantastic temple-like patchouli composition.
I'm pleasantly surprised! First of all, this is one of the most natural, and true patchouli scents I've ever smelled. It's the exact scent of patchouli oil that has sat on your skin throughout the day and has begun to dry down and become sweet. When I opened the box I was greeted by a puff of this patchouli aroma, and when I put my nose close enough to the sticks to pick up their scent, I got something earthy - like green tea, which I'd swear is part of the formula. If you've never taken a handful of patchouli leaves, and rubbed them together and taken a deep whiff, I don't know how this might smell for you, but it is definitely hippy grandma to me. I was worried about how the scent would present itself when burned: it's actually quite nice. Don't mistake me here, there is a woody-balsamic scent, which I have no doubt is sandalwood with an accompanying binder/resin. It lends a ancient temple-like quality to the composition. Tibetan incense is composed just like this. There's a earthy aroma over everything, not underneath like with Indian incense (which I also love). The sticks don't have crazy silage, and the burn isn't hours, probably 15-20 minutes per stick. For my purposes it's 5 stars. 0 broken sticks here.

Bought this brand for decades...
Excellent quality! I've been buying this brand for decades, mostly in stores, but now online for this batch. So far upon receipt, it is the same quality--the smoke is scented, it burns a steady slow rate, and not too much smoke--I'll time the stick-burn rate and update this review later.

Very good purchase
While it is not the best smelling incense I have ever used, the large amount of sticks in the box, the low price, and the good quality of the scent make this a five star incense. After you burn a stick you may notice that two days later your room still smells of incense. The scent lingers in the air for a long time. The smell is also light and not overpowering. It is a nice room freshener. People have complimented me on the scent in my room! I have had better smelling patchouli incense, but this one grows on you. I once had a brand of incense supposedly hand rolled by Tibetan monks. The patchouli was AMMMMMAAAAZINGG! If I can find that brand I will comment on this review. The Morning Star incense also comes with a nice little ceramic stick holder that is perfect for the size of the sticks. The small sized sticks are no problem for me and are actually preferable to larger sized sticks. You will need to place a plate under the burning incense stick to catch the ashes, of course, as another reviewer has stated. Overall great purchase. ***Update October 4 2013*** I found the Incense I was looking for! Turns out it wasn't hand rolled by Tibetan monks, but by people in a small township in Auroville, India. And It's available on Amazon! Maroma Eda Incense, Patchouli, 10 Count It is expensive, but If you want quality then I beg you to try it. It is so good. ***Update November 17 2013 *** Thirteen dollars for ten sticks of the Maroma incense is WAAAAAAYYYYYYYY too expensive . I payed three dollars a few years ago in a shop for the same incense and I thought that was too expensive. The five dollars it was listed at before was tolerable. But thirteen dollars? Way overboard.

Been buying this exact product for 45 years!
Absolutely love this patchouli incense by Morning Star, and been buying since the 1980s. Yes, I've come across other patchouli incense, and tried a few, but hands down, Morning Star is better smelling and has a consistant burn. My house smells Awesome 👌
