SUPRIZED!
I had been using "Fibermucil" by Andrew Lessman, taking anywhere from 5-8 a day. I was truly suprized to find that this particular product (Vitamin Shoppe - Psyllium Husk With Acidophilus, 600 capsules) works much better, faster and with no bloating. I only need 2 a day. I'm very happy with this purchase...and it's much more cost effective than Lessman's!!!

Vitamin Shoppe is the best...
I really really like this product. I'm currently using the 300 capsules, but in my second purchase will be using the 600 capsules. I have been taking psyllium husk on and off over the years. I've been through products like Metamucil and Benefibre to get my daily fiber intake and keep myself regular. I also have a container of loose psyllium husk powder in the house. I've been unsatisfied with all of them. Metamucil mainly because none of their products taste good even with the sweeteners, and also because of all the ingredients they add to the PH to try to make it taste good. This is the same for Benefibre, in paticular they're chewables--yuck!! The loose PH is good and I think a bit more aggressive but it doesn't contain Acidophilus and sometimes you may not take enough water which may pose to be uncomfortable---it's like bits of Husk get lodged in the throat.I love this procuct since I don't have to deal with any of the above. The capsules are pretty small, meaning they're a manageable size to swallow, nothing huge. You don't have to deal the water intake except for swallowing, since the husk powder is in capsules, and there is no after taste or taste what so ever. With the capsules you are given a set dosage of fibre which you can alter, it's one or two capsules once or twice a day. Since I'm more for an aggressive approach I take two capsules twice a day. It's fantastic. I've started just yesterday and there has already been a change that has impressed me. I already feel lighter and far less bloated. I wasn't too sure about Acidophilus, but it's fantastic for digestive conditions. In the past I have suffered from gasteritis, constipation and the like, Acidophilus wards those away with regular intake.Definitely for people on high protein, low carb diets where you may not be getting all your necessary fibre---this product will be a god send. Actually, this goes for anyone who doesn't take in enough fibre, which is everyone. You won't be disappointed.

yes, it works
ok I've used Metamucil, and Benefiber and did not care for the tastes. Even though you must take theses pills w/ a lot of water you not forced to take a lot of bad tasting water that makes you gag.(yes i could taste the 'tastless benefiber')I never really had a problem w/ my bowels until about 2 months ago when i realize i was only moving them every other day. I searched internet high and low but it wasn't until i came across an article promoting "Acidophilus Pearls", so i figure why just take the Acidophilus when I was also needed psylluim husk. Viola! i came across these on amazon and the vitaminshoppe site....These pills are wonderful! No cramping, no gas, and no aftertaste. I take 2 pills twice a day.. Once after waking again w/ dinner... I am back to moving my bowels twice a day. (no it's not a sudden urge to go, its more of a natural need to relieve :)..I'm in and out of the bathroom in 5-7mins...I've lost 2" in the waist!!!!

Works Fine, But Consider Your Options
I've used these pills to make things regular for years. They work fine: they include the acidophilus bacteria to produce lactase enzyme to help with lactose intolerance, they come in a handy pill form for easy storage, transportation, and taking, plus they contain no other ingredients except gelatin and water (in case you're worried about allergic reactions). However, you should consider your options when deciding what to use. The active ingredient in these pills is psyllium husk. This is the same stuff that's used in some natural laxatives like Metamucil. So, you might want to look around locally and see what you can find.Using Metamucil powder as an example of an option, the downside is that it contains other things than just the psyllium husk (flavors, colors, sweeteners, etc.). Of course, those are advantages, too, since it tastes pretty good. Another downside to the Metamucil is that it doesn't include the acidophilus that these pills do. Also, if you can only find the powdered form (it comes in wafer and capsule form, too), it's much more difficult to store, transport, and take. The upside of Metamucil is that it's significantly cheaper than these pills. The numbers will vary depending upon where you buy these things, but for me, these pills cost about 5 cents each (880 mg psyllium per pill). If you match the recommended dosage to that of the Metamucil (3.4 g psyllium per dose -- about 8 cents), that bumps these pills up to about 19 cents for the same amount. That's over twice as expensive. So, look around and see if you can find cheaper versions of psyllium husk.Again, there's nothing wrong with these pills: I've used them for years and rate them at 3 stars out of 5. Just consider your options.

Works Great
I think this product is great. It is so much easier to take the capsules than it is to use the powder.Make sure to drink enough water with the capsules. Also, the product was shipped quickly and packaged well.
