Artificial Intelligence: A Very Short Introduction

Margaret Boden was on point through much of the ideas and concepts that were brought up throughout the reading. Some of the theories and more “juicy” discussions around AI were asynchronoulsy developed and (although this may be unorthodox) worked extremely well in favour of the reader, not being overwhelmed with the dense information and history that is packed in each of the chapters.She goes through the prism of histories, methodologies, controversies, and politics, that imbued much of the field up until the current mainstream popularity of AI, which is a far cry from how the book presents AI- acting as an academic aid, or as an acute introduction to the laymen that is interested in subject. Regardless, anyone who engages with this introduction, will leave it with a depth of understanding that is far ahead of what any other media can offer on the topic; with a narrative that is easy to follow and digest, you can’t go wrong with this reading.

Although it took me a little while to understand many of the term used (a glossary would have helped her), this little book contains a vast wealth of information on AI, enough to provide a good understanding of the topic and its implications. The general introduction sets the scene and subsequent chapters examine subjects in greater detail.Like all VSI books, it fits neatly into a pocket.

The book provides a lot of historic background about the subject, even when that is not really useful help to grasp the concepts. I would prefer more technical explanations of ai concepts.
