HELL IN PARADISE: The First Book of a John “Jack” Edward Woolley Story Paperback – 26 Mar. 2021

Read this book as soon as it came out can't believe I did 'ent review it then! Written so you feel you could be there with great descriptions of the characters. Set during the war threaded with a love story.Can't wait for the next one.

I enjoyed this book right from the beginning, the characters are easy to follow. The further you get into the book the more it grips you. So well written that you can visualise the action. Eagerly waiting for book 2.

This is a well written, descriptive book that gives a real insight into the life of a sailor during ww2. The scene setting and attention to detail is really good and the story is engaging and easy to follow. A great first book.

I wanted to like this book, it’s rare to have a naval adventure where the protagonist is not an officer. Unfortunately I couldn’t due to the unending series of technical and factual errors.Just about everything about naval life is wrong, from simple things like a salute, to how a ship is organised in action, and the way officers interact with other ranks.Have you ever heard of sailors working “shifts”? I hadn’t until I read this. Apparently the watch system doesn’t exist.I’m sure the Luftwaffe would have loved to have had bombers operating out of Namibia in the last quarter of 1941.The Kriegsmarine getting destroyers within two miles of a troop convoy guarded by battleships would have been similarly impressive but the most egregious error is having the world at war with Japan prior to December 7th 1941. If the author can’t get that right it’s hardly surprising that the dialogue between characters sounds as if they come from New York City than Britain.Eventually the errors became too frustrating and I had to give up.

I really enjoyed the book as it balance the realities and humdrum of a regular sailor's life during WW2 with some really exciting (terrifying!) episodes. Looking forward to the next instalment to find out what happens next.

Really enjoyed this especially knowing it was inspired by real events, a remarkable story, let’s have the next one soon please.

I love this, the story is great, I could fully imagine his journey it felt that I was there with him and Jimmy. I can't wait for the next one to continue his adventure.
