Neo-Burlesque: Striptease as Transformation

Fascinating Book
I thought I understood burlesque a little but this book gave me a whole new and wonderful view of the modern take on burlesque. Opens up a whole new world of performance art. Also gives me an appreciation for shows. Saw a show at the Toronto Fringe recently and this book helped me really helped open my mind to alternative ways of presenting oneself on stage. I think my appreciation of amateur burlesque and drag performance has increased with more understanding. I recommend.

The doctor of burlesque
Dr Lucky is the real deal - performer, teacher, reporter, observer, doer, thinker. Reading this book is a walk through the history of the neo burly-Q beginnings, thoughtfully broken down by performer and genre (The only thing missing is Lucky, whose performances were some of the best out there). Anyone currently performing should have this book at the ready to remind them how we got here, and remember what it’s all about.
