I had a similar looking colored world map desk mat that was around 3/16" thick but it had got very worn and had a lot of marks so bought this to replace it. Like many other reviewers remarked it is VERY thin. I stuck a micrometer on it and can state that it is exactly 0.25mm/10thou" thick. It is however pretty tough plastic, it is coated on the underside with something that stops it sliding around and it does work OK as a mousemat as advertised. The tacky sort of underside makes it very difficult to get in the correct place and flat when first deployed, however the sticky seems to still be working well after 3 months and hasn't permanently stuck anywhere. The mat does resist hot coffee (accidental test not planned!). Personally I have this on a top of the line mahogany executive desk with inlaid green leather top and I would not recommend it for that as the mat is so thin it dips where the leather boundaries are and the mat is not thick enough to support physical writing on it so if I hit the dips whilst signing papers or writing it just looks like I messed up. Overall it is worth 3 stars and sort of does what it says but I would pay more for a much thicker mat say 1/8"/3mm thick I just can't find one anywhere with a world map on it.

Yup, chinese rubber/plastic manufacturing smell at first. Not overly pungent, but definitely noticeable. It is curled up in a shipping tube and needed to be flattened out as you would expect. The instructions mention this as well... yes, I actually read them! :)The surface is firm, but pliable, with a thin thickness overall. A thin layer of cushion is on the underside of the mat, but it doesn't make the mat feel bulky or spongy.The graphics are very clear and well printed on the surface, and appear to be very durable so far.We are using it on a study/homework desk for the kids computer. (So, maximum heavy duty longevity testing is underway!!!)I cut one edge to custom fit the mat to the desk we are using it on with a straight edge razor. No problems with that, and the remaining edge wasn't sharp afterwards. I also used 3M spray adhesive to lock it down on the desk. I plan on having it there for a while.The kids have already spilled some food on it, and it wipes up easily. Just a little soapy water in a sponge.Overall it seems to have good quality, but the initial smell and flattening requirements kept it from a full 5 star review.

UPDATE 11/30/2020 - After 6 months of use atop a wooden desktop that has not seen any liquid spills that would seep under the mat, I noticed that within approximately the first 2-3 inches of the forward edge - where I'm often resting my arms and perhaps moving them about a little, the product backing adhered to the wood and separated from the mat. This left scattered blackish material stuck to the wood that was easily cleaned off with some Murphy's Oil Soap. Why this occurred I don't know, but can only assume it was just somewhat of a friction transfer from my arms or elbows rubbing on the mat....think of how dry transfer images separate from their backing when you rub over them. As such, I am downgrading my rating of this protector pad because the durability is not what it should be. The photo provided illustrates areas of the mat that wore off, where white spots are seen because light is passing through the back.=====ORIGINAL POST:I was expecting to receive a 20x36" clear desk mate that would allow me to still see the beauty of my desk...a goof on my part with a sleep, late-night order, or did Amazon mess up? Well, although at 24x36" this is large enough that some edges go under monitor stands on my desk, it is thin enough to not be an issue with anything that straddles those edges, so all good there. Moreover, it does offer better protection from spills that prompted the purchase in the first place, my desktop being made of wood boards strapped together edge to edge, thus having some cracks between them that allows spill liquids to seep through to the drawers...not good. The graphics look good and there is plenty of desktop surface still exposed to give one the appreciation of a wood desktop. I have it offset to the left side, where I'm more likely to sit a drink and am happy now that even with less than 100% coverage, there is more protection for my carelessness. Durability looks likely to be just fine, and there is no slippage, so as long as the edges lay flat and stay flat, this should proved to be an excellent mat.

The Good:The graphics / image are well printed and look fantastic.Surface is slick and mouse moves well on it.The Bad:Paper thin.Backside doesn't stay put well.If a corner or something gets bent (kids), the crease will stay forever.Within 2 minutes of putting this on my desk, my small child pulled up one corner and folded over, which is now creased forever. He was able to do that because this is paper thin and the edges do not sit flat since it comes out of a roll.This isn't worth anywhere near $30.If you see this on sale $9.99 or less, consider it. Otherwise, find something else.

I like the mat as I have a rough plywood desk and the mat substantially improves the work surface. It's not flimsy, it hides surface imperfections, and stays put. It's also .010" thick, so in daily use the transition from mat to bare desk surface is hardly noticeable. My only complaint is that I damaged mine by setting a hot plate on it. The plate's heat caused a large bubble in the mat which is really aggravating because its in the area I use most. I was 100% satisfied before so this is a pretty sad development. They should warn against this since most mats will likely experience the same scenario in normal use. Learn from my mistake and enjoy you mat.

Por el precio esperaba que fuera más grueso ya que una amiga tiene uno parecido (con el mismo diseño de mapamundi) y está impreso en foamy (con un grosor parecido al de un mousepad). Este es únicamente una capa delgada de plástico, tiene una película como de goma que hace que quede firme en su lugar y no se mueva. La textura que queda sobre el escritorio se siente bien y mi mouse (láser) no tiene problemas al usarse encima, además, la calidad de la impresión es muy buena.Si buscas un mantel caro para poner tu pc encima, esta es la opción.

I got this to sit on my computer desk under my desktop, keyboard, and mouse. I have a wireless Microsoft keyboard and mouse. My mouse start acting up, I blame windows, the mouse itself, update this one and upgrade that one. For couple weeks working with mouse was just drove me nuts,until I picked up the mouse and put on a notebook, the problem solved, the mouse works with light hitting the surface a works with that light reflection, with my black surface it wouldn't get much reflection so wouldn't know where it is on screen! For that reason alone don't buy it! For any other reason it is perfect!

Me gustó que abarca una gran parte del escritorio, suficiente para colocar todos los accesorios. El mouse trabaja bien, sin necesidad de almohadilla adicional.No me gustó que la palma de la mano se pega un poco al material, y por ende este se levanta en la orilla cuando dejas de usar el mouse. Si usas algun teclado externo, debe tener antiderrapante pues se desliza fácilmente mientras se teclea.

El tamaño fue justo para el ancho de mi escritorio. La impresión es perfecta. El grosor es perfecta ya que es delgado. NO es un mause pad gigante, es una superficie y cuenta con un adherente para evitar que se desplace. Me gusta el material de la superficie ya que es ideal para el mouse optico.

Me decepciono, esperaba un tapete similar al de un mousepad, básicamente es un plástico delgado con una imagen, la compre en oferta por lo que casi me salio regalo junto a otras cosas de lo contrario lo regresaría...
