Can I tell which wire is hot or neutral in order to connect to the proper screw terminus in socket?

The package that I received came with directions on how to correctly wire everything together.  It was soo easy to assemble.  I did it myself and I am not experienced in anything electrical.

Product description has 75 watts; 120 volts but actual product base is stamped 250w; 250v. which is correct?

The real answer is in interpreting what you are reading and where it is being used: household voltages vary around the globe, e.g. 250w at 250v would be appropriate as a guide for the UK (they use 230V), and the equivalent for the USA would be roughly 120w at 120v. Since the kit in question comes with a 3-way switch, and if you are here in the States, I would go with a 3-way bulb rated at 30w/70w/100w. I would not recommend a 50w/200w/250w as that could produce a lot of heat very close to some lamp shades and would be a potential for fire (not to mention just unnecessary). Also, this kit comes with 18 gauge stranded wire which is more appropriate for low voltage applications and I recommend use on applications with 10 amp draw maximum (the lamps mentioned above should draw no more than 1 to 2 amps as a rule). The listed power rating of 75 watts is what would be considered acceptable usage: a medium power (mid-range) bulb, under continuous use, when installed in their components, for safety and warranty purposes. Is the lamp cord a UL approved cord?

What diameter drill is needed to make the hole for post ?

i did drill, I used pre-existing hole in the lamp. As for the size I don't know.
