Professional C# and .NET

Just teaches you enough to be dangerous
The author tried to cram in way too many things and omitted a lot of important details. While it's a somewhat good overview it will by no means make you a professional C# programmer, it will teach you enough to be dangerous and just frustrate you. This should have been a series of books rather than one large, half-baked book.

The book was badly designed and produced.
I know it sounds trivial, but the problem I saw with this book was so extreme, that it's worth documenting here. The books we buy are usually printed in nine to twelve point type, which is readable. In contrast; Wrox publishing has printed Mr' Nagel's book in what appears to be six point type.Newspapers print classified ads in six point type. Do you want to read 920 pages printed in type used to set classified ads? Add to this, the fact that the binding is so tight that you can't open the middle of the book far enough to comfortably read the pages, and we have a $60 book that is simply not readable.Another trivial point: This is a book for readers who don't know how to program in C#. Defining terms is therefore more important than it might otherwise be. A brief discussion of the problem that a C# feature should also be emphasized -- and readable, clear code examples are mandatory. I find that feature definitions in this book can be hard to find; the problems that the feature addresses are sometimes not present, and there just aren't enough code examples for a 927 page book.... and like many technical books, Nagel's hard work needed a MUCH MORE THOROUGH edit before going to Press.

A very Sound Text to Make Your C# Code Professional
Nagel has been writing and promoting .NET for over 15 years. He is a well balanced writer who both introduces C# well and covers all the bases needed to make us all proficient programmers from learning from his books. I would rate this book as one of the best sources for assimilating the latest .NET well.I have been working in .NET for 18 years and I would consider this book a one stop shop to mastering C# 9.You will have to practice coding after reading the 900+ pages of the book, of course. And this book may be the very best place to start.

Quel dommage !

Perfect of Intermediate coders
I say intermediate because I realise I am not advanced when looking at this Professional C# and .NET book (2021 Edition). This book covers most advanced subjects including Dependancy Injection in really good detail. It is the perfect compliment to the C# in a nutshell series. Go and look at the WROX website for a table of contents, Amazon for some reason do not include a look inside nowadays. If you are beginner, this book could also be useful to get you started using correct coding standards, even if some of it could be difficult to understand. Perhaps also a good compliment to a beginner type book.It is 962 pages crammed with references to modern coding practices, well worth the money.
