These are the best!
Since the late 1960's while working for my father's company doing rough and finish carpentry, I have used these for scribing all types of trim, doors, etc. While these are very simple, they work great and are the best I've used. I've tried all types of new and "improved" scibers but I've always returned to these. Now that I no longer work in the field and am mostly a DIY'er I still keep them in my tool belt when I've got a project for my children or around my own house. Highly recommend.

Very easy to use!
Had some finish trim that was very uneven on the ground. Used this scriber and followed the base of the gap and was able to fit the piece of trim in perfectly once it was cut. Great tool and super easy and simple to use.

One pencil
Works fine but you can only use a round pencil

Excellent for its designed use.
For fitting cabinet fillers and scribes, to out of plumb, or other wall disfigurements, this cheap little tools, out-does others. ++++++I was a professional cabinet man and carpenter for over 10 years.....

Scriber
The best inexpensive scriber I've found. Simple, easy to adjust and well made for the price. The wing nut setting holds securely.Update: Well, I've had this scriber for a while now and found it not to be as sturdy as the same scriber made years ago. It's still OK, but far more tinny and bendy than units 20 years or so old. Too bad, the design is good but General has cheapened their product to the point that it's barely usable for scribing in finish carpentry work.

best scribing tool on the market
i've bought quite a few tools for scribing, and none this cheap.beyond that, this is absolutely the best tool for the job. it has a long, fine point, so it gets in every little spot for a clean scribe. i do finish carpentry for a living, and i use this tool all day long. I realize its a cheap highschool compass, but if it works, use it. i would buy this above ANY other scribing tool out there, so the rediculous price tag is an added bonus.simple, and does thejob, very well.

Basic and not as high quality, but will do the job.
It'll get the job done but it isn't the best quality and it'll take more than tightening the valve snug to keep it from moving while you scribe.
