Best Tripod Adaptor Made
I used a spring-loaded tripod adapter for a while, but I never had much confidence in it, and would always tether my phone is some way, just it case it fell. And attempting a shot in portrait mode was completely out of the question. Finally, one of the springs did break. The adapter was still usable, but I no longer had any confidence that it would securely hold the phone. No springs here! Just a solid interlocking-C design made of high quality aluminum, and a screw mechanism that seems virtually fail-proof in its simplicity. I think you could probably run over this with a car, with no damage whatsoever. The bottom accommodates the 3 most popular camera/tripod attachment methods, and there's enough clearance for just about any tripod screw length. Could someone torque down the screw enough to damage the phone? I suppose it's possible, but not by accident. You'd have to actively be trying to damage the phone. The jaws opened up to easily fit my fairly wide Galaxy S6 (inside a Speck case), with about an inch to spare. Once the clamps are snugged down, the phone is securely held in place, with no wiggle. I suggest always using this with some sort of bumper case, as the rubber pads on the clamps are more for non-slippage than for cushioning. But nearly everyone keeps their phone in a case anyway, so not really an issue. Tilting my tripod head to shoot in portrait mode was no problem. There was simply no way that the phone could slip out.The strap on the back seems more like an afterthought. It's really only big enough to get 2 fingers through. I suppose it might be useful for shooting hand-held video. It would at least keep you from committing the sin of shooting video in portrait mode.

Good but could be better.
Full disclaimer: this is a product I purchased with my own money. I was not given this product to review.Overall this product is extremely promising and does what it says. Made of very lightweight aluminium and the base is Arca-Swiss compatible. However, in terms of build quality, it does feel a little coarse. The main screw is not smooth and does feel jerky. The pitch of the screw is also very fine, which means more turns needed to open up the jaws. The top of the main screw knob features a 1/4” threaded hole so you can mount say a mike or something that uses a 1/4” male stud, such as a small LED light panel. The base itself has 2 threaded holes, 1/4” and 3/8”, so you can either attach your own plate (eg manfrotto quick release plate) or mount it directly to a tripod. If you have a tripod that comes with an Arca-Swiss style ballhead, then you can mount the Gript directly to the ballhead. Great for video and timelapse using your smart phone.I am giving it 4 stars simply because of the lower build quality. It is by no means shabby, just could have been more refined overall. Other than that, the usability and features certainly warrant 5 stars.

5 star quality - worth the buy
Solid, Sturdy, Secure, FunctionalIt fits my iPhone 6 perfectly snug with a Pelican outdoor case still on it. It doesn't wiggle or slide no matter if I had it mounted on the tripod hanging sideways for portrait mode or regular landscape mode. I'm now planning to get a RAM mount or something similar for my car to mount it to my windshield or dash to have for fun driving shots and use for Google maps etc. Quick release and away I go with phone in hand or pocket ready for quick shots on road trips.Theres not much else to say. I had been researching all kinds of smart phone holders as I wanted to have a way to use my phone to film and do photo shots that didn't need a full camera system. This was the answer.Pro -All metal constructionEasy 2 finger size adjustment and tighting/losseningAdjustable velcro finger strap1/4-20 top mount location for led light, mic, handle, GoPro,another smartphone with Gript mount, etc, etcSticky rubber pads to hold the phone in the clamp3 common tripod mounting methods on the bottomLooks good and professionalCons -I only have one, buying some more to give as gifts and have a spare or 2 around for others to use.

This is a great smartphone holder
This is a great smartphone holder, probably the best. Still, I don't think it's a great value.Consider what it does, it holds your smartphone and allows you to mount it to a tripod with a 1/4" or 3/8" attachment and it has a strap that helps stabilize your shots. That's it.The strap, while better than nothing, certainly isn't the ultimate in stabilization technology, and there are a ton of $5 smartphone holders out there if that's all you need.It does have a 1/4" female on the adjustment screw but that requires you to buy either a 1/4" male to 1/4" male or 1/4" male to 3/8" male adapter to mount a microphone. In addition, if you want to add a cold shoe to use your smartphone as an external monitor, that will require another adapter. All together you're in it for between $40 & $50, which really isn't a great value. If the adapters were included, then this would be unbeatable as far as quality and value are concerned.

The smartphone adapter that rules them all.
I went through several different smartphone tripod adapters before I found this one. All those adapters with springs and clips are not secure. Not Gript. It will hold the phone securely regardless of what case you have on it. I bought Gript when I had an iPhone 5 and it worked well even when I put the phone in a Mophie case. When I moved up to the iPhone 7, it was again reassuringly secure even with the slim OtterBox case I use.I use it primarily as a tripod mount with a small Siuri ball head and a Siuri T-025X tripod. This combination as worked very well for me as a travel camera rig. I combine it with a small Hisy remote shutter release for maximum functionality. The strap on the back does not fit my hand and I would not buy it expecting to use it as such. I expect it would be more useful holding the camera onto a railing or small pole.
