Q: I have one single door; so I would need two kits. How much weight do the panels add to the door? Will the springs need to be adjusted?

I have a single aluminum door. One kit was good and I didn't have to adjust the springs. It works great, big difference.

Q: Can the panels be painted over?

No. There is a soft and flexible white vinyl layer on the side that faces the garage area. If you attempted to pain this surface, it would crack and peel because of a) the material's low bonding to paint, b) the flex which would induce cracking and c) the daily shifts from hot to cold. If you look at any photos of the installed product, you'll see that the look is very clean and pleasing to most as is.

Q: What is the thickness of these panels? I see 2.2 inch thickness listed, is that the case?

Yes, the panel thickness of the insulation is or about 2 or so... it is a sufficient amount. The one concern... purchase some additional duck tape (white color). Duck tape has a better adhesive and is suggested over the tape in the kit.

Q: The panels on my garage door are 72". Since these panels are only 54", how do you splice the additional 18"?

I think you have to purchase larger panels, ie two car garage panels. The one I purchased is a one car panel which I had to cut down.
