A Promising Idea that Needs some Refinement
The NUYU looks like a well designed and solidly engineered sleep system with a very innovative idea: "you emulate the circadian rhythm's temperature cycle so that your body is kept at the warmest temperature when you first get in bed, then slowly drop it to it's lowest temperature in the middle of the night and then back to the starting temperature to wake up [paraphrased from the website].Okay, I was sold so now lets look at the process of getting it set up.1. Download the app BUT only if you have a phone later than iphone4 (which you wouldn't know if you didn't go to their website's FAQ), an iPad later than the iPad4 or all but a few Android systems.2. Fill the machine with distilled water. (about 500ml or a standard sized water bottle will be needed )3. Attach the mat to the water tank. If you can't get it to "click", then flip the plug over and try again4. Plug in5. Put sleep mat under the fitted sheet or over the mattress.6. open the app/ press the big green button on the water tank (don't look for the zzz symbol, you won't find it.) until the blue light starts to blink7. Start the app, answer the questions (i didn't know the answer to some of them) and wait until they are paired. The unit started with a motor noise that was somewhat muffled but got louder as the world around me started to quiet down. I could hear and feel water rushing through the hose and through the mat BUT nothing was warming up. Then I glanced down and the phone was turned off (in sleep mode) for lack of activity. But when I woke it up it wouldn't connect without a hard reboot. When I changed my setting for the phone to NEVER enter sleep mode (lock mode), the connection continued. I pushed the unit under the bed to minimize the sound of the water tank. I could feel my body energy drop. I could feel the movement of water under me and the call to go to sleep. But i did not feel any warmth from the unit (the app was set for 75) until I turned it up to 80.It is in these areas where it would have been helpful if the unit had more explanatory directions like, "You may not feel heat at first" or "You should feel heat instantly" just to help us know how to tell if the unit is working properly. It was too noisy for me and too bright, even pushed under the bed. Again, I felt that there was just not enough information in the manual to address this. I gave it 4 nights of trial and even though I did find the motor loud, I was able to use it as "white noise" by the third day and found my sleep beckoning me but still remaining elusive. There was a gentle comfort in the subtle wash of water circulating under me and I could tell that It was starting to work! I consistently woke up before the alarm so I don't know how it wakes you up.One big problem I had was that during the night, I was fully aware of what I was sleeping on. I was afraid to turn onto my side. I did manage to mangle the unit once or twice by my tossing and turning so I suggest that you place this under the sheet and right on top of your mattress for stability. If you're having problems sleeping, this is an expensive alternative, but it could work! I honestly think it is a little early. The generic directions, (i.e. no where do they suggest turning off the phone's sleep cycle), the unclear "What to expect directions", and the absolute dependency on the app contributed to the downgrade of stars. I have gotten great sleep using a heating pad on low, one that kicks off during the night but I am sleeping on an electric field which the NUYU does not generate. That's another plus to consider. If you can afford it, it is definitely worth a try. I suspect they're going to be looking for ways to keep improving it.

It keeps me cool at night
My 2nd one. Love this.

Got rid of it and went with a BedJet instead
I purchased this thing because I always sleep hot, bordering on how flashes some nights. This product really didn't meet my expectations in any way. The pad doesn't cover enough of the bed to be useful and while I can feel the cooling somewhat, you don't have any real control over it and the pad itself is kind of lumpy and definitely noticeable under the sheet. You have to set this whole cycle thing going on your phone and don't have instantaneous control if you wake up too hot or too cold. It seems very slow to react. I didn't like having to refill the tank with distilled water and the noise of the pump and high pitch fan just were not to my liking. They were sleep killers, not helpers.Trying this first was our bad luck. we really didn't do much research before buying it.A few weeks after buying this we researched for alternatives and found the Bedjet cooling system on Amazon and tried that out. It was heaven compared to this contraption and I could tell it would be a keeper after the first night. Press a button and feel cool and dry in just a minute.. Also has a much nicer white noise which is soothing for sleep.Final verdict-Nuyu Sleep is a badly designed piece of junk but it did turn us on to power cooling sleep systems for beds and that is how we found our BedJet, which solved my hot sleeping problem.

Some cooling, but overpriced, poorly designed, NOISY: exceptionally poor consumer experience!
I bought 2 of these units through their IndieGoGo campaign (which in itself is ridiculous--since when does a giant multinational corporation need to use crowdfunding? it was clearly a cheap advertising opportunity). All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't pay full price for these overpriced, under-designed pieces of plastic.I've always slept hot, even as a child, so for several years I've been looking for sleep cooling solutions---I've tried the "cool gel" pads that get hot (and stay hot) after about 20 min, the special moisture-wicking mattress pads, having a fan on in the room, and nothing was satisfactory.I finally bit the bullet and bought a BedJet at full retail price (see my review on it as well...3.5 stars) and was underwhelmed: for those who have night sweats for whatever reason, the BedJet may be great, but my problem was that my pillow and the area of the mattress I was lying on got uncomfortably warm enough that I would wake up and shift position--the BedJet did provide increased airflow in the bed, but for me it just didn't do much for the hotspot mattress problem. On the mattress-level solution side, I looked at the ChiliPad, but there were just too many negative reviews, especially of the 2nd generation unit, for me to consider shelling out yet another big wad of cash for an item that would underperform. So when I read about the NuYu on TechHive (clearly the free PR was the reason this giant company did this fake crowdfunding...) I decided to join the campaign. It initially seemed ideal---50% off the supposed retail price, for a unit that ostensibly promised to be a better version of the ChiliPad.I was psyched when the boxes finally arrived, and set it up immediately, only to be immediately underwhelmed--and in fact, actively irritated and frustrated. Here's the breakdown:The good:- the unit does provide mattress-level cooling, but for me this effect essentially disappeared if the ambient temp in the bedroom was over 68 (I have the heating thermostat set to about 60 at night, and don't have AC, so the outside weather dictated whether or not it got over 68)- the pad that has the little water tubes embedded is surprisingly not that lumpy, so it is not very intrusive to sleep on---I didn't really notice it, though I do have an air mattress (Roho--great for sleep comfort) above my normal mattress, so it may feel different if the pad is lying directly on a standard mattressThe bad:- the unit seems to rely on ambient temp water to cool (you can't set the cooling temp on the stupid phone app any lower than 68, as I recall) so if the ambient temp is higher than your preferred sleep-pad setting temp, I wouldn't count on getting any actual cooling (the BedJet relies on movement of ambient air as well, so both systems have this limitation---it seems that neither one has "active" cooling)- the only way to control the &*($R#@&* thing is through a &*(%#@*() phone app!!!!! There is literally NO WAY to set the preferred temp, on/off times etc except through this idiotically designed NuYu app---whose sole purpose appears to be to crawling through your smart device and gathering as much data about you as possible- like other reviewers, for about the first week I used the units, I would be awoken at night by random screeching, howling noises from the pump. The unit was still working re pumping of the water, so I guessed it was air in the system, or a cheap pump (probably both). I started running the units whenever I was home (prior to sleep), in hopes of getting the noise out, and it mostly worked--after my break-in process, I haven't heard that specific type of caterwauling- however....these things are NOISY!!!! Even after the caterwauling from the breaking-in period was gone, the darn things have the sound level of a dishwasher from the 1980s (and not one of the premium brands, either). For a product with a retail price of $500 (or even Amazon's current price, which is much less), it is unconscionable that the designers didn't appear to bother with even rudimentary sound isolation. As another reviewer mentioned, this is not pleasant white noise of the kind that will help you sleep, this is noisy noise :(- there is NO REMOTE!!! clearly the company's aim was to force everyone to use their incredibly poorly designed app, in order to maximize data gathering, but I find it beyond incredible that there is no remote--- since you are compelled to use their ridiculous app to set the thing up, you are asked intrusive questions (weight, height, birthday, as I recall) in a particularly blatant attempt at data gathering---ostensibly it uses your height / weight / age to fine-tune the temperature profile or something, but...really? I just left mine at the default system values--though just to try to mess with their data gathering, I think I might have set my birthday to somewhere in the early 1900s...- even when you grit your teeth and create an account (yet more tracking...) to set up your preferred temp on the app (you can't access the app without a login), there is NO WAY to set up more than one NuYu on it! Are you someone with only one smartphone or smart device who bought 2 units in order to cover both sides of the bed? Sorry, you're out of luck. You'll have to buy another smart device and pair it with the NuYu in order to set the temperature and control it. Unbelievably short-sighted design!- once you have set up your initial account and set the preferred sleep temp and wake-up / stop time (I logged out of the app immediately thereafter), you can physically turn it on by using the "on" button pad on the unit---but it beeps every time you hit it....which brings me to my next negative, which is:- TOO MANY flipping beeps! If you turn it on using the button on the unit, it beeps. If you turn it off, it beeps. Did anyone on the design team stop to think Oh, yeah, people are using this in a bedroom. Where others might be sleeping. If you turn it on or off using the app, I don't believe there is a beep, but...that means you must (1) have your phone in the bedroom (2) be logged in to be subjected to more of their intrusive data gathering- if the unit runs out of water--say in the middle of the night--it BEEPS CONTINUOUSLY!! There appears to be no way to stop the beeping, short of actually refilling it. I found (one morning at ~2AM) that if you press and hold the "on" button on the unit, you can make it think that you're trying to pair your smart device with it, and it will temporarily stop beeping, as long as you're holding it down. But as soon as you let up, it STARTS BEEPING again! OMG, I can't even conceive of the reckless lack of foresight on the part of the product design team that kept that little gem of a feature in the product past the very first version 1.1- the company has said a remote is "coming soon" for the past 1.5 years, but given the incredibly poor average customer response to their incredibly poorly designed and incredibly overpriced unit, I seriously doubt that they will be putting more design $ down this black hole of a product--even though I for one would be more than willing to pay $20 (even $50) for a remote that would solve these ridiculous problems. Not that I should have to, given how much the units cost in the first place, but here we are with the sunk cost fallacy, in the form of 2 NuYu units sitting next to the bed and taunting meSUMMARY:If you are desperate (and I mean desperate) for some bed cooling, give this a try but make sure to test it out thoroughly while you still have the product return window open. For all the overpriced-ness and (IMO) somewhat mediocre cooling performace of the BedJet, it definitely is a better-built, better-designed, better-supported unit than this NuYu disaster.

Keeps you cool all night long
My wife loves the NuYu.I donβt understand why they are on clearance, but the price was low enough for me to buy one for myself.
