I was trying to decide between this item, and the massage ball roller for rolling down my shoulder blades. Has anyone tried both?

Not a hundred percent sure what you mean by a "massage ball roller", like a Hyoervolt product? We have like fancy lacrosse ball type trigger point massage balls of several different makes and models and we prefer this one. I have high scoliosis and when I work at a desk my shoulders/upeer mid back get screaming angry - this little guy works great to roll out some of the damage.

How does this compare with a foam roller to roll out the glutes and legs?

It is for a different purpose. My medical massage therapist asked me to get one. It is for the spine. You lay on the floor & arrange it so the two balls are on each side of the spine, protecting the spine from the hard surface, then roll. Just be careful: she has me do a specific area of the spine due to prior injury. If you have prior injuries, I would check with a medical professional about where on the spine you are rolling.

is it firmer than a tennis ball?

I would say a similar amount of give, but bigger surface area so not quite as intense as working through your muscles with a tennis ball.

Great alternative to the Tune Up "Alpha" balls

Cheaper than 2 alpha balls and the material of the GRID STK will last longer than the alpha balls (alpha balls usually last 15-24 months depending on usage frequency). Not too soft but not too firm (lacrosse) neither, good balance.

Go-To Back Massage

This is one of my go-to massagers in my collection. Feels great on your back and you can easily throw this thing into a suitcase when you travel. It is very dense and solid but still feels good when you use it. Good for legs, back, and neck.
