Good device
Does well. Transfers to device are fast a long as on USB3. No problems with it at all.UPDATE:01/09/2024Drive lost the partition suddenly. Was working fine, then gone :(Contacted Seagate and have all the required details to return it to Holland. Now to find a box and 4 inches of foam! Seagate have told me they will attempt recovery of the files and put to a new internal hard drive and replace this drive. Seems fair enough and also warned it could take 6 weeks or more.I have software that can recover a failed drive but it was unable to read an awful lot of files so purchase EASEUS Data recovery (using a discount code for ยฃ75 lifetime licence with updates for life) and this was a life saver. Bought another 8TB internal Seagate drive from amazon to transfer the files to. All going well. There are a few files that have been damaged but can download them again. The concern is why these files are damaged. They seem to be 'scattered' parts of files with no details of what or who they belonged to.Had no problems at all with customer service, used the main Seagate website to contact support. One single adviser who was very good.Edit: 07/09/2024Reformatted drive. Drive initially very slow to transfer files and I mean like 1.2mbps, really slow. Decided to move disk across to my smaller Windows 11 computer which I also purchased some time ago from Amazon, Nipogi, it has not missed a beat since and works very fast. Downside is there must be a USB controller problem on my old desktop. Decided against returning the drive to Seagate as I got all the files off perfectly with the EaseUS software.

Great storage but low speeds
This is a very nice piece of kit.The good point being the large storage capacity but don't expect the world when it comes to speed as it doesn't read data at anywhere near the speeds of my SSD .For the money it's very nice but as others have said you can't load data onto it directly via the usb and that's my only down point

Wouldn't work as a backup drive
I bought this 6TB drive, because my music, picture and video backups were spread over a number of different external drives, which were all getting full. This is the first Seagate drive Iโve bought: Iโve always used Toshiba drives before and never had a problem. But the price of this one was good for its size and Seagate is a serious brand, so I gave it a try. Unfortunately, my experience is exactly the same as the experiences of some other one-star reviewers. It started out fine, transferring via USB3 at a rate Iโve never managed before (recording up to 170 MB/s at one point). Then, after about 20 minutes, it started to slow down, and slow down some more, until it was transferring at between 5 and 10 MB/s. I waited a few hours; but it didnโt speed up again. At that rate the drive would have taken days or even weeks to fill.I tried the drive on two other desktops and a laptop with the same result. I used three different cables, but no change. I even rolled back my main PC by a week, in case trying to make the Seagate work had created any issues: but it was still the same. My other portable and external hard drives work fine on all my machines; itโs just this one that refuses to.A lot of people leave good reviews of this drive, so Iโm not sure why it doesnโt work for some. I wonder if itโs an issue with trying to copy very large amounts of data in one go. But, if a 6TB drive isnโt capable of that, then it canโt be used as a backup drive, so whatโs the point of it?I received this drive last week and Iโve wasted more hours than I can count trying to make it work. I canโt waste any more, so itโs going back today. Luckily, I hadnโt put any personal data on it yet, so Iโve been able to use a one pass secure delete program to wipe it clean. My first and last Seagate; next time Iโll read the reviews first.

Penny-Pinching. No USB-C hub unit to computer connecter included with this item.
Everything (well, almost everything) was delivered safe and sound. However, the product details on the Amazon website says that this works with USB-C and USB-3 connectivity. Technically, that is correct - as far as the front-facing ports are concerned. However, to connect the item to your computer, only a USB-3 connecter is included. The 'quick start guide' points out that: "USB-C ports require a micro-B to USB-C cable (not included". Very helpful - NOT...!Most devices in 2025 use USB-C for connectivity, so including a USB-C cable in the package would have been very helpful. Failing that, Amazon and/or Seagate should have made this VERY OBVIOUS on the online, website product information details or, at the very least, included a USB-3 to USB-C adapter. This would have cost PENNIES. It's incredible that the manufacturer, or Amazon, could be so penny-pinching as to not include a USB-C cable (or adapter) as part of the package for an item costing almost ยฃ170Thankfully, I have such an adapter but others might not - hence the reason for this review.

Excellent hard drive.
Actual useable size is 7.27 Terebytes. Also calculate you need to leave around 15% of the hdd empty to keep it from slowing down. So for max performance youโre only going to get 6.2 tb out of this 8tb drive. That said, transfer speeds of around 150mbps, using a usb 3.0 port, (will drop a lot when plugged into usb 2.0 ports) and thereโs no stutter when streaming videos from it on a 4k tv.Comes with safety software to encrypt with password if you want, and an option to keep what you want backed up automatically.

Whether Iโm working on my PC or Mac, this hard drive has been a game-changer, offering peace of mind with its robust performance and ample capacity. Highly recommend it to anyone in need of a dependable external storage solution!

Easy to Set Up, but Reliability Was Very Disappointing
The initial experience with this hard drive was quite good. Installation was quick and straightforward, and it connected to my computer without any issues. Connectivity remained reliable whenever it was detected, and using it was simple enough for backing up and transferring files.Unfortunately, thatโs where the positives ended for me. The biggest issue was reliability. The drive failed multiple times, and on several occasions data that I had stored simply disappeared. This completely defeated the purpose of having a backup drive and made me lose confidence in using it for anything important.Another major problem was performance. The drive regularly became stuck at 100% usage, causing transfers to slow down or stop altogether. This happened often enough that it became frustrating to use, and troubleshooting didnโt resolve the issue. The noise level was also much higher than I expected. It was noticeably louder than other external drives Iโve used, especially when under load, which became distracting during longer transfers.Because of the repeated reliability issues, I donโt think it offers good value for money. A storage device should be dependable above all else, and unfortunately this one wasnโt. In the end, the drive appeared to be defective, and I had to return it and make a claim through the insurance to get it resolved.Overall, while the setup and ease of use were good, the poor stability, disappearing data, excessive drive activity, and disappointing reliability outweighed those positives. I may have simply received a faulty unit, but based on my experience I can only give it 2 out of 5 stars. โญโญโโโEasy Setup, but a Faulty Drive with Serious Reliability Issues
