How often is it recommended to use in the washer.

My washer has a prompt that comes up on the screen which says "clean washer with Affresh," so that's my cue to use the Tide cleaner. Although I've used Affresh (another brand) before, the Tide washer cleaner smells much better and does a better job. Thanks for asking!

If the ad says you get 21 cleaning packets then that is what you get. The only difference is the packets come in a plastic bag as opposed to a box you would get from the store. This is by far the lease expensive way to purchase this cleaner.

I have a mound system and we use this about every 3 months and have not had any issues with the septic system.

What kind of smell does this leave? does it smell like tide? is it a clean smell? foul odor? what does it smell like?

It does not smell like Tide detergent. I have breathing problems and the cleaner has a light clean smell. I have several dogs and wash there blankets and beds. I use the Tide cleaner after I wash them and you would never know I washed stinky dog beds. It does a great job on my front loader. I'm very pleased with this product and will continue to use it.
