Saved me from
I was always happy with the sound quality of my Bose SoundDock and even put up with the "device not supported" thing when I upgraded from an iPod to my iPhone. But the sad truth is, because it has no external jack, it's pretty much a uni-tasker when it comes to playing other devices (Like my computer where I keep my iTunes library).I was all set, with tools in hand, to cowboy-up and hack into the device to install my own when I came across a review of the Griffin Dock Adapter. I was skeptical. After all...how often is it that you come across a simple and inexpensive solution for your modern day electronic problems? Well, for less than the parts would have cost me at my local Radio Shack, this little beauty solved my problem. It took longer to open the box it came in than to install it and now, with the help of a 3.5mm extension cable, my SoundDock has found new life; as my computer speaker system (and all for less than twenty bucks...).Great product and it arrived in no time at all. I definitely recommend this to anyone that owns a SoundDock and would like to extend its functionality.

Very good product...works as advertised.
This little dock adapter does exactly what it's supposed to do...allow you to dock your shuffle on a regular iPod dock. I tried it with my iHome alarm clock radio and my Phillips alarm clock radio. The dock adapter fits nicely. It will, however, come unseated if you just grab your shuffle and lift it out. You need to use your other hand to keep the dock seated. Small inconvenience. I would have given this item 5 stars if it charged the shuffle when it is docked but it doesn't. I use it at work so I just take the charging dock with me and plug it into a free USB port on my computer and charge it when necessary. It also does not work as an alarm, but that's a job for my 80 gig classic iPod. Good little product. October 7, 2008 - This is an update to my previous review. If I could change my rating to 5 Stars, I would. You can disregard the comment about not being able to charge the shuffle while in the dock adapter. I just realized there is a switch that you have to slide over to be able to charge. You can't listen at the same time, but that is a small inconvenience.

Solved my conundrum!
I have a Bose Sound Dock 1 and I wanted a way to connect it to Apple Airport Express so I could use the sound dock as another set of speakers (this would make six. I like to play music all through the house.) Anyway, there's no way to plug the Airport (or anything for that matter) into a first generation Bose SoundDock. Then I read someone's little trick of using this adapter. I bought it, removed the bose iPod connector on the SoundDock's front and replaced it with this, plugged in a three foot 3.5mm m/f cord to it and then to the Airport Express, plugged that in to the wall - and voila! We have wireless sound via Airtunes coming from a Bose SoundDock 1. Cost me about $11 all in all (this plus the small 3.5mm cord.) Beats buying a new Sound Dock that has rear connections! Happy happy happy!

Poor product and really poor customer service
It made poor connection with the dock (Bose rev 1 2004-2008 model) and required me to wiggle it just right and hold it to enable sound. The male connection was too short to plug my iPod, iPhone 6, and Samsung Galaxy in to so I had to use the additional (as suggested - "3.5mm Stereo Audio Headphone Male to Female Extension Cable - 6 Feet") cable adapter. The device shipped to me had clearly been used and returned because it's plastic had been torn open and then taped back together. I ended up not needing it since the "BMR A2DP Bluetooth Music Receiver + Power Adapter for Bose SoundDock I, Portable & Wave" worked. When I returned the Griffin Dock Adapter, they charged me return shipping AND 20% restocking fee.

Bad, very bad design for iPod Shuffle 2G
I really wanted to write nasty; will attempt to stick with the facts:This product DOES NOT WORK AT ALL with iPod Shuffle 2G (with clip): 1. there is no room for the clip, ergo iPod will not fully engage with the 1/8" pin 2. there is a plastic protrusion inside preventing the iPod from full engagement on pin 3. the top iPod functions (power and book selection) are not accessible when mounted 4. one proviso to above: major plastic removal make #1 and #2 above invalid. This product also DOES NOT WORK with iHome iH16 -- too much plastic.Look for a iPod adapter with simple short cord and 1/8" plug -- good luck!

Best & only off the shelf Solution for playing music from your phone or other MP3 through the earlier generation Bose dock
Best no DIY solution to play music from phone or other MP3 through the earlier generation dock; but you also have to spend a few dollars buy a short extension cord to connect the earphone(male end of cord) output to the input (w/ the female end). HOWEVER, you still have to do a simple mod with a pocket knife or whatever tool that can do the cutting. The edge of the base of the adapter's male plug-in end sticks out and blocks the cord from plugging the female end of the cord all the way in. you have to shave off enough so that it plugs in fully and everything works. BUT, even with the need to do that mod, this is still the BEST solution!!!!

Works as advertised
It looks like some others have had a couple bad experiences, but not me. I started using this right away when I got it and it works great. I received a second-hand 2nd gen iPod shuffle and a second-hand docking station (from different sources) and I wanted to make them work together. This did the trick. An added bonus, this adapter also makes a standard iPod cable (like the cheapy ones you see at the checkout stands everywhere) work with the shuffle for loading and synching songs. Nice!

new life for old Bose dock
Like many, I am using this for an aux input on an old Bose series one dock. With 3.5 mm stereo extension cable I can run it up to my computer, phone or other non-ipod device. Got the Bose dock for a dollar at a garage sale, so now it has a brand new life!! FYI, for my cable to plugin 100% I had to do a bit of carving on the plastic. Not hard, it was pretty soft.
