What is the difference in logitech c920 and c920s webcam?

The C920 (now discontinued) and its equivalent C920x have a "standard" lens, which is code for plastic. The C920s has a glass lens. The glass is supposed to deliver more crisp images, and glass is less likely to develop a haziness over time.

can it turn off camera mic and be used with headset mic?

You can do that through the operating system and/or whatever audio software software that that you have installed. For example, in general social media software that uses cameras or microphones allows you to select which audio and video sources are used. I always use the camera with a headset microphone for professional webinars so that extraneous sounds are not picked up. Like most Logitech cams I have used, this one works well with Linux.

Does the lithium battery come with the webcam? Or will we need to purchase it when we received the item?

They need to fix that product description, that had me wondering why a webcam needed a battery. Apparently no it does not need one.

I have an older dell xps desktop. i only have a usb b port. will this camera work? will another one be compatible?

Your question does not specify which size or model XPS pc you have. Double check your Dell XPS's USB ports. I don't think it's a "B" type. It is likely a type "A" or "C". The camera comes with a USB A wire (older type and most common). The camera worked for me, as a simple "plug and play" on my old (2009 vintage) Dell Latitude laptop.
