Q: If used In outside fireplace does it still need to be vented ?

I have only used it inside. Not sure.

Q: The back wall of my fireplace is 18". the front opening is 36". depth is 18". height is 20". will this set fit?

The depth might not be enough. I would contact a licensed plumber to answer that question. I was told hat you need to have the burner against rear wall so depth is important.

Q: What is the difference between the G4 and G45 burners?

The G45 has the same main burner as the G4 but also includes a separate burner for the front ember bed

Q: I need a propane set with thermostat or some control it’s a small area to heat, what options are there?

Yes, any real fire should be vented due to carbon monoxide.
