Special Effects Blood Red Hair Dye

I love love LOVE this dye!!!!(TL;DR at bottom)I have medium to dark brown hair, and the thought of bleaching it terrifies me because the last time I bleached my hair in high school I absolutely FRIED it. I was pretty hesitant to see how well this pink would show up on my dark hair without bleaching it first. Boy was I surprised.First of all, I have a LOT of hair. I needed 3 bottles of dye to cover my whole head. Hopefully you can use my photos to compare your hair length to mine and use what I said to help you determine how many bottles you’d need to buy.I didn’t just pour it in my hands and rub it all over my hair, I actually sectioned out my hair piece by piece to make sure I got the dye on every last bit of hair as evenly as possible. This whole process took about 2 hours. Yes, it was exactly as awful as it sounds. Man were my arms tired.. After I finished dying it, I put all of my hair up in a shower cap / bonnet and let it sit for 5 whole hours. Excessive? Probably lol.I swear I remember hearing once a long time ago that when you wash out hair dye in the shower you’re supposed to keep washing it til the water runs clear. Well I was in the shower for a good 40 minutes shampooing the life outta my hair before I just gave up and got out the shower lol. My shower water continued to run pink every time I washed my hair for at least a good 2 to 3 weeks.Oh and as for the washing?? Yeah I hate cold water so I never did any of that stuff that you’re supposed to do. I continued to shower every to every other day, and I used warm to hot water every time. Yeah yeah I know the color won’t last as long, but screw a cold shower. I also switched to using Herbal Essences Color Me Happy shampoo.[EDIT: I am now aware that Color Me Happy is actually horrible for colored hair. That shampoo still contains SULFATES, which is the ENEMY OF HAIR DYE. So yeah make sure you read the ingredients on your shampoo bottles carefully, because clearly Herbal Essences is a bunch of LIARS.]So after 1 month of warm showers and Herbal Essences, the third photo is what I was left with. I’m honestly incredibly happy!!! The pink definitely faded a lot, but there was still enough pink in my hair to the point where if a stranger on the street saw me they’d be able to say “that girl has pink(ish) hair.” This dye has exceeded all of my expectations.One thing I’d like to add, though. This dye does seem to stain plastic showers. It kinda comes off when you scrub it with acetone (nail polish remover) and some abrasive cleaners. Over time the stains definitely do fade. But I just wanted to give y’all the heads up in case your shower turns pink and you can’t scrub it all off in one night.I’m about to re-dye my hair with this same dye as soon as I finish writing this review, so it might even be brighter and last even longer this time!~TL;DR~1. Shows up great on medium brown hair, but I let it sit for 5 hours before washing.2. Long hair (or at least mine) requires 3 bottles.3. Stains plastic showers.4. Color stays in nicely after a month of daily warm showers and using Herbal Essences Color Me Happy shampoo & conditioner.

i used a mix or deep purple and pimpin purple all throughout my long hair. I mixed some with different amounts of conditioner to get more variation on my non-bleached hair and I left it to process for about 3 - 3 1/2 hours. It came out really awesome and honestly I just love this brand. I'm definitely using it again. I also attached the photo of what it turned out like :)

I diluted the dye with conditioner and my hair is now a beautiful pastel pink/peach

** Edited about shipment. Sadly this is the 2nd time from this company that my package has arrived damaged or been cancelled due to being damaged. I waited for 10 days for delivery then 10 more days for a refund and had to have Amazon complete. I’m sad to say that it seems the company has gone downhill in the past 2 years. I’ve been ordering for almost 10 years and never had issues before. I’d rate 1 star for service but the dye is still worth every dollar. ***I’ve been dying my hair since I was 13 and am now WELL over that. I’ve used everything from kool-aid, Maniac Panic, Prevana etc in the constant search of finding a color that takes in my hair and is vivid enough to keep my attention and doesn’t fade so quickly I’m forced to maintain it more often than every few months. I have a lot of hair and it takes a few hours to dye. I found Atomic Pink about 9-10 years ago and fell in love! Saying it is bright really doesn’t do it justice. I can easily be seen in a crowd and it is very memorable. I refer so many to this dye I should have stock options lol. On me it does fade in a natural ombré fashion ending in a light cotton candy/baby pink after about 4-5 months. I bleach my roots only and only wash my hair with color safe products in cold water approximately 2-3 times a week. I receive daily comments and compliments. It’s a huge hit with the kids that love my “mermaid” hair. It also glows in black light for the first few weeks after you dye it. Word of caution. THIS DYE WILL STAIN EVERYTHING YOU TOUCH! Walls, showers, your skin etc. it will fade on your skin in a few days. Hands down worth every dollar!

I really wanted a bright pink that was lighter than most of the dark pink colors on the market. I usually use Manic Panic, which is fine, but not very long lasting. After seeing some good reviews, I decided to try out Cupcake Pink, and I am so glad I did!I left it in my hair for about 2 hours. The results were vibrant and have lasted a month so far on my bleached hair. It's the prettiest shade - a bubblegum color that fades so nicely to a pretty pastel. Super happy with this color and I won't use any other pink dye!

Writing this about a year after I stopped using the atomic pink on my hair. Let me tell you, if you want a pink that is damn near permanent and fades nicely, this is it. I absolutely could not get this out of my hair. My hair dresser could not get this out of my hair and she specializes in hair color and removal. This stuff is awesome. I eventually had to dye my hair back to my original color (brown), but if stubborn pink is what you want, this is the stuff. Just be warned! I thought it was what I wanted, but now I'll be happy to get color that eventually washes out. This stuff is hard core.

Special Effects hair dye has been my go-to for over 10 years (yes - I've had pink hair for a LONG time!). It's the best brand that I've found, and lasts for weeks before fading into a still nice, softer colour. They have a ton of great colours available, but this review is for Cherry Bomb.This particular colour glows under blacklight which is a neat bonus. You don't need to use much for bright, vibrant colour.

Works on natural grey and white hair!! Awesome! And great staying power!

Special effects is still the best hair dye on the market as far as I'm concerned, I've only ever been disappointed with alternatives. This bottle will last me forever. Super happy with every colour I've bought. It arrived very quickly and was super well packaged too!

Wow!! Such a great hair dye. My normal pink washes out entirely in 4-5 weeks. This one is still vibrant and I am 8 weeks on!! I just wish it was easier to get in Canada.
