Advanced Kit - Tensegrity Physics Model, Build Tensegrity Models - Architecture Building Kit, Minimum Age 15, 12 Dowels

For the price, this kit leaves a lot to be desired, but considering the limited retail options available, this has unfortunately been the best version I've been able to find. I give high marks for the online video tutorials. What I didn't like was missing, and miss cut pieces. The one missing end cap did not interfere with building the pelvis shaped model, as it does not require all of the pieces, but I was forced to modify/shorten every dowel rod by 1/8th of an inch on each end in order for the system to function as described. The problem is that the black end caps are differing lengths, with most too short to fit over the dowel end far enough to pinch and hold the rubber bands in position/tension. This made it impossible to finish the puzzle/for the finished puzzle to hold shape, with rubber bands sliding back and forth within their grooves causing the symmetry to shift and collapse. With some considerable effort I was able to shorten the dowel ends allowing the black end caps to seat properly for me to "lock" the rubber bands and therefore the finished structure in place. I tried several saw types, but settled on sanding the ends down as the safest method. At the $45 price point I feel I should not have had to modify the system so dramatically in order for it to perform as advertised. Hopefully the company will read this and update their design/quality control. Amazon asked for the age appropriateness of this item/"toy". I would guess that anyone under fifteen years of age would struggle with this project, and at 50 years old the careful assembly tested my patience, even after my successful modifications.

No instructions included, found nothing online either. Had to get my very detail-oriented, methodical, patient son to put it together for me, LOL.

I bought this to assemble a hip structure to have as a fun thing on my desk. Watching the tutorial I spent about 2 hours with no success. I noticed that the holes drilled in the dowels are splintery, which caused a few of the rubber bands to break while I was assembling. Most of the black end caps don’t fully cover the dowel hole, causing the dowels to slide freely. This was a huge frustration, as the tensegrity structure disfigured as I got further into the process. For spending 40$ I would expect the materials to be on point. *Update* I received a replacement - after opening I used a toothpick to smooth out all the holes. Was able to put together the hip structure in 15min no issues. The end caps fit well too!

It's bloody fantastic. By far the best thing I got on Amazon. Already looking forward to Xmas for a gift.
