I needed a compass (or two) that could be used on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil, so ordered this one and the SAFE-T compass at the same time to cover my bases (and hoping at least one of them would work). This one was slightly more expensive but a WAY better value. It is a lot more sturdy, a lot easier to read, and a lot easier to use than the SAFE-T compass. Drawing circles is easy and fast and, yes, it does work with the Apple Pencil. I just have to position my thumb and middle finger so that they are making good contact with both the iPad's glass screen and the stationary outer circle of the compass, to prevent the compass from moving while I'm drawing my circle. It's nice that I can draw the whole circle without repositioning my hands or having to hold the pen at an awkward angle. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is a little space between the stationary and spinning pieces, so the ends can be off by a hair. But this not dissimilar to the result you can sometimes get with a traditional compass, where sometimes you catch one edge of a pencil lead coming and the other edge going, and the ends of the arc don't align perfectly. Unlike a traditional compass or the SAFE-T compass, though, this one can only draw circles up to 4 inches in diameter.

Works great - tried it with acrylic on watercolor paper. It was a simple test. I found that taping the outer ring with art tape to hold it steady works the best. This should work great on 6 x 6 canvas board and smaller. The photo I have supplied is 6 x 6 watercolor paper. The paint is acrylic paint.

This is incredible and exactly what I needed for drawing nice circles. Yes, the smaller diameter circles are a little tough to spin, but if you're careful it works, and it's just such a handy little tool. I honestly can't believe how cheap it is for how useful it is.

Works well

This multi-use tool is handy and lightweight. With measurements around the outside and multiple circle templates, it creates a variety of lines, circles and arcs. However, making circles larger than one-inch in diameter is difficult. You are supposed to place your pen or pencil tip in the appropriate hole then rotate the large inner disc of the Helix until you have drawn a full circle. My experience is that often the inner disc won't turn or turns only partway, making it very hard to draw a circle. It doesn't consistently rotate smoothly. When using the smaller circle templates, drawing a clean circle is quick and easy. Also, for precise work, I found that there is movement play in the rotating center disc, causing many circles not to be perfectly round. At other times, the whole circle maker moves while drawing and results in imperfect circles. I still like this very lightweight tool. It has many uses. There probably are higher-end circle makers out there for precise work. But, for an occasional circle or evenly sectioning out portions of a large circle, this works well.
