what size for a 38 - 40 waist

I have a 37 inch waist, so for me a 36-38 is a good fit, it’s snug but not tight and I feel that’s what you want if say working out with weights, don’t see any shrinkage after washing, think this strap is a cut above any other strap I’ve used. If you are closer to a 40 inch waist I’d say maybe the XL is a better fit, you’re kind of on the end of a L and beginning of XL, hope this helps

never tried in the dishwasher I do put it in a mesh bag before putting in the washing machine

Does the waistband roll on people with bigger stomachs?

It has not on me, very reliable as I’ve gained weight.

Comfortable support all around

Amazing fit. Originally purchased for LinguiniaL hernia support and was more than pleasantly surprised by the wider band which gives perfect support. First day wearing and first day no pain. (Hernia belts are too bulky) I’m sure after surgery this jock will also be perfect to wear during recovery and sports thereafter.
