Carpe Diem

Saxon is about as consistent and reliable a metal band as there is. This line-up is so good and with Andy Sneap at the helm the production and sound of the vinyl is amazing. This album and Thunderbolt are neck and neck. I selfishly wish these guys were still in their 30’s so we could many more years of their music. The creativity, pounding drums, guitar riffs and solos are top notch. Great job Saxon!

Incredible release by one of the all time greatest heavy metal bands! Saxon has put together a stellar effort on Carpe Diem that is in my opinion, the best heavy metal release this year so far and there already are a few. I am a long time fan since their Denim and Leather release and have to say this is the one of the best of their career which is saying a lot because of the many great albums over the decades. I really love how I can put this CD in and just let it play because of the very good song selection order. It doesn't get old or tire me as I listen. I think out of the later releases it is the best since Unleash the Beast from 97' which is another gem. Carpe Diem has catchy songs that crank with catchy riffs and some of Biff's best vocals to date. Saxon is a Heavy Metal band that always stays true and I for one am happy with this release 100% without a doubt. Get this one and you will not be disappointed!

like it alot.dislike nothing.im going to be short and sweet if u like rock or metal get this record it will be a wise buy. if you love Saxon and follow them or are an old fan and fell out of there groove get back in with this. its going to be the best album they have done in last 5.yes this is better than any of the last 5 they released and those all are really good. so you know this is the one we been waiting for.. like Metalhead? power& the glory? I was pleasantly surprised by the new Saxon. Great toe tapping tunes with intelligent guitar fills, riffs, runs and leads. Biff Byford has not lost his voice. The best Saxon album in years.

Some will say Saxon doesn't blaze any new trails anymore. That might or might not be true, but they're good and what they do and they do it good. Longtime Saxon fans should enjoy this recording.

I'll keep this short. This Album is simply stunning, updated sound, a bit more melody, The Pilgrimage has a "Crusader" feel to it, but the power of metal is still way up in there. You will just have to get it, supremely worth it. I have been listening since the mid 80's, this is some of the best stuff in years from Saxon, just buy it!. Right Now!!! Your ears will thank you, this is what we should be hearing on the radio.

Bought the CD...Been a fan since their inception, own the entire catalog...I wont get into each song by song, just will say that this is the strongest of a recent run of real strong records..Great riffs, not much "filler" if any...each song was a great listen...BUY IT !!!

The true torch bearers for NWOBHM! Another solid release with Super Nova, The Pilgrimage, Remember the Fallen and Living on the Limit leading the charge. Saxon has never released a bad album to my ears. Even Destiny had some fine moments. Their songs may not be as epic as Iron Maiden but they are a lot more catchy!

"Carpe Diem", le 23ème opus de Saxon, ou le 24ème en comptant l'album de reprises "Inspirations", semble faire partie de ces albums qui, sans que cela s'explique forcément, sonnent instantanément plus que d'autres.Ce n'est pas que la musique du groupe de Biff Byford &Co. se soit totalement renouvelée, ou se fasse expérimentale. Les compositions des Saxon, sans s'étendre plus que de raison, tendent toujours vers un heavy metal qui s'adapte (plus ou moins) aux tendances du moment. La face plus heavy, prenant cette fois le dessus par rapport à un power metal longtemps entretenu. Et la façon dont sonne les compositions, font que dans l'ensemble, l'album passe vraiment très bien.C'est l'éponyme "Carpe Diem", doté d'une brève intro bien faite (et toute Saxonienne), qui entame l'album, avant qu'un Biff rattrapé par de gros riffs ne fassent rapidement entrer l'auditeur dans le vif du sujet. "Age Of Steam" et "The Pilgrimage" poursuivent chacun dans leurs styles, bien heavy et enlevé pour le premier, plus épique et mélodique, presque slow, pour le second.Les guitaristes se lâchent, et abattent du super boulot sur des "Dambusters" et "Remember The Fallen" assez soutenus, tout comme sur un "Super Nova" au break mélodique, les guitares étant globalement à l'honneur sur cette production. Un plus surprenant "Lady In Gray", revenant à un style plus médium, mais avec des riffs et refrains cependant encore bien appuyés.Puis l'album (qui défile très vite), arrive déjà sur sa fin avec trois autres titres. Un vif "All For One", un morceau speed comme en compte de nombreux autres albums des Saxon, puis un plus interpellant "Black Is The Night" doté lui aussi d'un super break aux touches mélodiques, et enfin "Living On The Limit", deux extraits aux riffs accrocheurs, ainsi qu'aux refrains courts (mais fédérateurs), de son chanteur.Un "Carpe Diem" qui sonne (autant que le thème de sa pochette est réussie), composé de dix morceaux solides, plutôt axés sur les guitares, et doté d'une production en adéquation, réalisé par des Saxon sur qui le temps ne semble pas avoir de prise.

Muy buen disco, todas las rolas son excelentes se me hace increíble que vayan a dar su tour final, muy recomendable si te gusta el Heavy Metal clásico esto es para ti.

SAXON – „Carpe Diem“ (2022)SAXON zählen wohl unbestritten zu den Flaggschiffen der NWoBHM, sie sind nicht nur Mitbegründer dieses Genre, sondern gehören seit nunmehr 43 Jahren zur Speerspitze selbigen. Mit „Carpe Diem“ erschient heuer ihr 24. Longplayer, weswegen es müßig ist hier zu erwähnen, was einen musikalisch erwartet.SAXON sind SAXON, die ziehen seit Jahrzehnten ihr Ding durch, da geht es längst nicht mehr darum sich in irgendeiner Form weiterzuentwickeln, da geht es nur noch darum das Altbewährte neu zu präsentieren. Damit dürften SAXON allerdings keine Probleme haben, wie die 23 Vorgängeralben eindrucksvoll bestätigen, die Briten hauen auch heuer wieder zehn rustikale und knackige Songs raus.Das bringen die ganz locker, mit viel Herz und Leidenschaft, schaffen sie es völlig routiniert und entspannt, dem geneigten Hörer eine NWoBHM-Nummer nach der anderen vor die Stirn zu kloppen. Vor allem die „Veteranen“ aus den Anfangsjahren, die den Briten seit Jahrzehnten die Treue halten, dürften wieder voll auf ihre Kosten kommen.Ich weiß nicht wie es euch erging, als ihr das Cover gesehen habt, ich habe mich aber sofort an die 80er und an „Crusader“ erinnert. Das war zwar eines der schlechtesten Alben der Band, der Titelsong war aber grandios und ist wohl eine der besten Metal-Nummern, die jemals geschrieben wurden. Das Cover zeichnet eine raue und karge Landschaft, genauso, eher etwas rustikal und erdig, wirkt auch „Carpe Diem“ auf mich.Genauso startet das Album auch mit dem Titelsong, ein bisschen mystisch bis dann die Musiker loslegen du BIFF mit seinem charismatischen Gesang loslegt. Der Opener und Titelsong ist eine typische SAXON-Nummer, hart, geradlinig, schön eingängig und mitreißend – einfach geiler Metal. Die pfeilschnellen Riffs und der recht leicht zu merkende Refrain, sorgen dafür, dass du die Nummer sofort drin hast.Überhaupt langen die Briten ganz ordentlich hin, auch "Living On The Limit", "Age Of Steam", "All For One" und "Dambusters" sind richtige Dampframmen, da kann man echt nicht meckern. Das sind typische SAXON-Nummern, die hat man von ihnen schon zuhauf gehört .... aber sich noch nicht daran sattgehört! Das sind Songs für Headbanger und Metal-Puristen, ganz alte Schule, aber immer noch absolut hörenswert und gekonnt.In diese Kategorie gehört auch "Remember The Fallen", einer meiner absoluten Album-Highlights. Auch hier eine geradlinige, aber extrem mitreißende Melodie, dazu ein griffiger Refrain ... einfach geil! Thematisch befassen sie sich hier mit der Pandemie und gedenken den Menschen, die ihr zum Opfer gefallen sind.In "Super Nova" thematisieren SAXON den Klimawandel und hätten so alle relevanten Themen der Gegenwart abgehandelt. Ganz nebenbei ist die Nummer auch noch ein richtig fetter Nackenbrecher, bei dem die Herrschaften von der Headbanger-Fraktion voll auf ihre Kosten kommen sollten.Etwas behäbiger, mit einem stampfenden Rhythmus und ein wneig mystisch angehaucht, kommt "The Pilgrimage" daher. Der Song ist schön atmosphärisch, eine ganz feine epische Nummer. Da ist von der Stimmung und der Machart her, ganz viel "Crusader" drin, womit der Bogen zum Cover geschlagen wäre. Ebenfalls etwas schleppend und düster atmosphärisch, drückt "Lady In Gray" aus den Boxen."Black Is The Night" ist eine Hommage an die Vergangenheit, der Song könnte locker aus den Anfangszeiten der NWoBHM stammen, da ist ganz viel Oldschool herauszuhören. Man könnte sagen, dass die Nummer schön "staubig" ist, im positiven Sinn.Musikalisch ist das solide, routiniert und gekonnt, das machen SAXON einfach sehr gut. Auch BIFF ist wieder in bestechender Form, dem merkt man seine 71 Jahre jetzt nicht unbedingt an, bin mal gespannt, ob er live ebenso solide abliefern kann.PAUL QUINN und DOUG SCARRATT ergänzen sich wunderbar und liefern sich ein paar hörenswerte Duelle, Bassist NIBBS CARTER und Schlagzeuger NIGEL GLOCKLER treiben die Jungs schön vor sich her. Die Briten sind perfekt aufeinander abgestimmt, da greift ein Rädchen ins andere, da gibt es gar nichts zu meckern.Mein Fazit: Was soll man über „Carpe Diem“ großartig sagen, was man nicht schon über dessen Vorgänger gesagt hat. Zu hören gibt es erstklassigen Metal der ganz alten Schule, die NWoBHM-Veteranen haben rein gar nichts verlernt und schienen auch kein bisschen müde oder ausgebrannt zu sein. SAXON ballern hier zehn erstklassige Metal-Nummern raus, nichts Überraschendes, aber das Altbewährte eben in einer Qualität, die jegliche Kritik eigentlich verbieten. Freunde von rustikalem Oldschool-Metal können hier bedenkenlos zuschlagen – SAXON ist eben SAXON – Punkt.
