I love that this comes as a package, and you can separate the thermostat and heat pad if you choose to use each item separately. Much more cost efficient to buy a kit rather than separate thermostat and mat! If you use a heat mat with any live animals you should always use a thermostat! It took a while, maybe an hour, to get up to temp but maintains its temperature very well. I keep them 92°-95° in their warm area, I do not use loose substrate with my leopard geckos. This mat could easily go much hotter if you were to use loose substrate and need the heat to penetrate the material. I also use this set up for my Pac-Man frog, and another for my dubia roach colony.

I bought this heating mat and thermostat set for my ball python's terrarium because I needed a heat source that could warm the substrate under her hides, where the heat lamp doesn't reach as well. The package arrived well protected, and everything matched the listing. The adhesive on the heating mat has been absolutely great. I'm writing this review after about a year of use, and when I recently cleaned the substrate and could see the bottom of the terrarium, the mat was still fully attached to the glass. The probe has also been working well. I accidentally sprayed it with quite a lot of water once, and it continued working afterward. The thermostat has been working perfectly, and I find that feature especially helpful because it makes the heating setup feel much safer and more controlled. Before this, I had other heating mats without thermostats that overheated and bleached or burned the surface of the furniture underneath the terrarium. I haven't had that problem with this one. One thing to keep in mind is that this type of heating mat is intended to warm the floor of the terrarium, not the air or everything above it. That's exactly what I needed it for. My snake spends a lot of time on the warm side, especially after feeding, when she likes to warm her belly. Overall, I'm very happy with this set after a year of use. The mat is still attached, the probe is still working, and the thermostat has been reliable. I would definitely recommend it to other reptile keepers, especially because the thermostat is such a useful safety feature.
