Great source of learning
I highly recommend this book if you are interested in self learning about Forensic Science. They have experiment kits at reasonable prices -- if you tried to source this yourself it would cost more. I've just gotten started on the book and excited to learn.

Great read yet needs Kit "FK01 Forensic Science Kit" to experiment. Check price of Kit and status of kit ... some of the components in the kit have been updated, so look for updates. You will have to search the web ... I did not buy the kit and have no more information.Still love the book great information!

Interesting
This is my second Illustrated Guide by Robert Bruce Thompson - the first being his Chemistry Lab book - and I am verypleased. A very educational and instructive lab book that guides you through the process of first setting up a nice Forensictype lab in your home, then a bunch of experiments to do. Many little short cuts are given on how to make useable apparatusthat, though not the same as something that you may see in a professional Forensic Lab that costs 10's of thousands ofdollars, works quite well. Loads of little side notes too.

Tons of information
It doesn't just list experiments, it teaches about the science & purpose behind the experiments. It recommends inexpensive stuff when possible, but some of the lessons require specialized equipment and/or chemicals. The publisher does sell a kit containing everything you need, or you can search for it yourself. Perfect for an aspiring high school/college forensic scientist.

Really good project
Excellent for introduction to chemistry through the forensic way. Can be explored also on higher levels and biochemistry introduction courses

For practical information it's OK butsome of the reagents will be difficult to buy in UK

Looks interesting, but not DIY
So i thought this book would be an interesting read (e.g. revealing fingerprints from superglue), however, felt like in needed a degree/PHD to read an understand most of the topics. The language used went way over my head even though I did A-level Chemistry, this far beyond that. The book is designed for the US market not UK and you can't access or buy half the products from the UK.
