This was their favorite book when they were teeny tiny and I so enjoyed reading it with them. I especially appreciated the hard board pages. The story was simple but exciting for little ones, taking them on a quick adventure with the moon. One gets "lost" in the amazing artwork- you discover something you missed each time. I HIGHLY recommend this book as one of those that would e passed down from generation to generation. Review: Sweet book - My daughter and I both love this book! It’s so cute

Age appropriate toddler board book with beautiful illustrations
The book just arrived-- in perfect, new condition. I searched and searched for a board book that would be age appropriate for my toddler. I ordered "The Moon- Earth's Best Friend", but realized after opening it, it is a book my kiddo will have to grow in to. There's not a lot she will comprehend currently. This book is perfect for a toddler. It is a rather long story and my 2yo who is obsessed with moons will likely enjoy listening to this very cute tale of a boy taking the moon for a walk. The last two pages offer supplemental information about the Moon phases and nocturnal creatures.

Beautiful poetic language and illustrations. One of my favorite children's books of all time!
Over the past ten years, I've read almost every night with my son, so we've been through many books, and this is SUCH A FAVORITE that not only do I give it as a gift whenever anyone has a baby, but my son -- now an avid independent reader (who has read all of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Wings of Fire, etc.) -- still keeps it on his bookshelf because of the memories associated with it. Alison Jay books are always so lovely, and both I TOOK THE MOON FOR A WALK and LISTEN, LISTEN encouraged my son as a baby to learn the beauty and cadence of language and to appreciate reading as ritual and as a special bonding time between parent and child.

Favorite Book Of All 3 Kids!
The artwork is stunning, the poetry is timeless. We have given this book as a gift many times to close friends and family, because we feel every family MUST have this book. Younger children have plenty to point out and name (with repetition of different animals and objects on different pages). Older children (and adults!) love the sweet, calm feeling of a nighttime walk that permeates throughout. This book is an amazing bedtime story that will be enjoyed by all, ages newborn through 99.

Sweet book, poor binding
Love this little book, great for bedtime. Only complaint is that the binding on the paperback book broke within a couple of days.

Allows you to take your imagination along
Grandaughter is fascinated with finding moons and loves the moon book, which is a favorite at nap time. Art work is great and features many animals that can be added into the story. Story allows for discussions about other things like how the moon can be reflected in water like we are reflected in mirrors, or what dogs might sound like barking at the moon. Great quality construction, this book will be added to my list of things to gift.

tres jolies illustrations qui ont un style assez originals. C'est comme lire de la poesie. I love how the pictures look like cracked paint. the words have a rythimic quality that is very soothing.

Un libro stupendo, molto solido e le immagini sembrano dipinti. Consigliatissimo, non so se piacerà piu' a voi o ai vostri bambini. In entrambi i casi un ottimo acquisto.

I bought this book for my daughter's second birthday and two months on it is now one of her firm favourites. The book is larger than I expected for a board book which was a nice surprise and is good and sturdy so holds up well to the inevitable rough treatment from a two year old. The illustrations are lovely and the more you study each page the more you find to chat about together as you read the book. The story itself is just long enough to hold a little one's attention and the prose has a wonderful lyrical quality which really seems to appeal to a young child. My little girl is busily learning to speak at present and has asked to hear the story so often that she can now sit and recite parts of it herself as she looks at the pictures which gives her a lovely sense of achievement. I can see this book becoming one of those that is kept for years to come to serve as a reminder of these special early years.

Delightful book which I enjoy reading to my daughter. (Not to sound snobby, but I have an MA in English, and I'm a bit picky about children's books. Most of them are garbage, frankly.) This one is genuinely poetic, soothing, and is gentle without being cutesy or sugary-sweet. The text has a beautiful cadence and metre, which is not too sing-songy, as many rhyming texts are. Likewise the illustrations are unusual and stylilized without being creepy or shouty. Overall a beautiful book that I'm sure will be considered a classic in 10 years' time. I think this book would appeal to children from infancy through about age 3.
