Toto: Greatest Hits Live....and More

I love this DVD for the VHS outtake footage of Toto's 1990 heyday. But it’s for Toto obsessives and completists only. This is a re-release of the 1990 Paris show at Le Zenith, featuring Jean-Michel Byron on lead vocals. It contains only one hour of concert footage with an emphasis on songs where Steve and David sing lead. Since original lead singer, Bobby Kimball is absent from this lineup, female backup singers sing his high part on English Eyes, and Jean-Michel since Bobby's part on Rosanna. More casual fans would be better off with the 25th anniversary document, “Live in Amsterdam” from 2003, after Bobby rejoined, or Live at Budokan 1982. The DVD also includes two 10-minute interview segments from different Toto lineups, one before the 1990 concert, and one from years later after Jeff had passed. So it's a bit of a hodge-podge.

I've been following Toto since their first album. This DVD is a great addition to my collection. As other reviewers have noted, the quality isn't the best, but it's not all that bad. Some of the cuts are puzzling: the choppy editing of "Child's Anthem" and the fade-out of "Goodbye Elenore." All in all, for 10 bucks, a great find. Any fan of Toto should own this.

In product detail, the format of this DVD is shown as NTSC, which is compatible with TV sold in the US. However, the DVD I received was "PAL" format, which is standard in Europe but NOT compatible with TV sold in the US. Please be careful!

Being the first to review this DVD should have aroused my suspicion.With that being said, It is my fault for purchasing an item that had little to no description of said item.I thought I could look up the CD of the same name and cover art to see the track list that I would be buying.I was pleasantly surprised to see all the great hits plus acoustic versions I would be getting.Nothing could be farther from the truth!The video quality of this concert looks pirated(TERRIBLE),only 12 songs from a concert in Paris,a "Behind the Scenes"that is patched together and finally a Toto interview that looks like it was done with a defective camcorder.Don't get me wrong,I am a HUGE Toto fan and even a deceptive DVD seller can't make them sound bad.Word to the Wise;don't buy undescriptive items and most important,save your $26.oo & change and don't buy this DVD.

After buying the correct DVD region DVD player, it plays fine!

故 ジェフ・ポーカロの雄姿が観られます。若干、キレが...とは思いますが それでも素晴らしい。 この当時のLeadVocal(一瞬ですが-笑)Jean Michel Byronは カメラアングル処理、編集でBackVocal扱いに見えます。 しかも3rdの名盤TurnBack収録の 名曲EnglishEyesのLeadVocalは 黒人女性のバックコーラスの方ですし (これが、カッコいいんですよね、パフォーマンス含め) 確かこの人、後のTambuツアー 同行し、アルバムでもボートラで Leadとってた人...かな。 ルカサーのプレイも当然若々しくてgood 私と同年代のおじさん、おばさん(失礼)は もとより 今、この手の音楽が好きな若い人に観てもらいたいですね。

What else can be said about the guys...although they receive some harsh criticism...this album(live concert)eradicates any bad judgments that may have been conceived throughout their career.As any dear listener will hear and see,this Paris evening with Toto(previously hard to find VHS) will broaden their taste and understanding of what music should be: emotional,artistic,groovy,funky,rock you name it...the band has it all and gives it all.Leave all that nonsense of this and that about style, because they can easily capture every audience, from pop to heavier sounds of different levels of rock, to jazz and back, leaving some droped jaws and blushed faces of prior cynical attitudes in the process.It is an open lesson to all the aspiring musicians,critics of music,music fans and all those who heard of the word music...and all this in a joyful and exciting manner.I urge you to buy it, it is an eye opener and a beautiful musical journey.

La qualità della ripresa è quella di quando è stato fatto il concerto, quella audio è quella che può restituire un master su nastro magnetico di non eccelse prestazioni, dinamica piuttosto limitata e ben udibile la presenza di un controllo automatico del volume, a parte questo le prestazioni dei musicisti sono "stellari", la qualità del concerto è strepitosa, uno di quegli eventi che restano stampati nel cuore e nella mente per il resto della vita. Assolutamente fantastico, se vi piacciono i Toto è da non perdere, se non li conoscete è da non perdere, se vi piace la musica suonata è da restare senza fiato!
