Q: I have a 4 year old mt. vernon AE , does anyone know why these are cracking?

Not really sure if its a design issue. It takes a lot of heat in that area so it heats and cools then it cracks up the middle. I had my stove 8 years and I had to put a new one in very year. It wasn't bad at first they gave me free ones under warranty then the price wasn't to bad to buy one then the price went to $85 and more.

This baffle is the only one you can get for your Mt Vernon AE. There are no variations in size, so you really don't need to measure anything!

Q: What is the warranty on this item?

You will need to consult the manufacturer for any warranty. I will say, this item is about 1/8” narrower than the original and is difficult to get centered so that both locking tabs hold it in place.
