Great to use in the rain.
I use a notebook to take notes/sketches on jobs. The notebook lasts for months until full as long as it does not get wet. If it gets wet it gets puffy and must be replaced When I look at work in the rain I use this and then add the notes to the notebook. Pencil marks clean off easily if you do not bear down too hard.

Yup. You can write on it when it's wet.
There isn't much to this thing. It's a piece of slightly textured plastic and a standard pencil. I use it in the shower for those strokes of genius that always come at the wrong moment. The pencil writes rather lightly (very thin line) and its not so easy to erase. 4 stars if it was easier to erase. 5 if it came with an eraser. I bought a Mr Clean magic eraser as per the other reviews.Update: The board erases much better with the Magic Eraser when its dry. I assumed you wet the eraser before using (it looks like a sponge) but works better dry. Adding star.

Good size!
Was able to clip this off diving. Worked well underwater to record measurements for a piling survey

Writes great even underwater
This is great for writing on when wet or underwater. As a (totally) deaf person, I can’t hear when the lifeguard blows the whistle or gives instruction in the pool, but if anyone needs to communicate with me while I am swimming, all they need to do is write on this slate. Any pencil will work with it and it cleans easily with scouring powder (or sand but there is no sand at the pool)

Shower Capture
I use this slate to capture ideas in the shower and it works well. The only consideration for you might be size. 8x10 is a bit on the large size, but is working well for me now that I have it.Tips for using a dive slate for Shower Capture- Pencils - You can use any pencil with the dive board. Some lead types might work better than others.- Cleaning - Clean your board with a Mr. Clean magic eraser (no fancy board cleaner required)- Writing - Don't press down too hard when writing as you will dent your board. You will quickly master the soft writing touch required.Good luck capturing all those amazing shower ideas!

False advertising. The slate does not glow in the dark. Shipping is very slow.
I ordered this slate thinking it would glow in the dark due to the misleading product photos. I received a slate that does not glow in the dark, and has smudges on both sides. The product description and images are really misleading. The shipping is also very slow and not worth the wait for the wrong product. I contacted the seller and they don't even carry a glow in the dark flat slate. Disappointing.

the pencil is a little lacking, but the slate is great. Good for instructors keeping notes of students or for MAPPING!!!

Great for notes in the shower
I'm not a diver, for the record; I'm a writer. As such, I've jumped out of the shower to jot down ideas more times than I care to think about.I realized a few weeks ago that there probably existed something that would let me keep my dignity intact and my bath mat dry, and my purchase of this slate was the result of that hunch. I didn't want a refillable pad (because inevitably I'd run out of sheets and forget to order more for days) so the reusable nature of the slate is perfect. It's also a great size: big enough to write even long paragraphs or extensive bulleted lists. So, probably not what the designers had in mind, but incredibly useful nonetheless.
