Objective Secure: The Battle-Tested Guide to Goal Achievement

This book can change your life
I knew this book was going to be trouble for me when I ordered it. It sat on my table for a couple of weeks because I just had a feeling it was going to be one of those books that was going to force me to make some uncomfortable life changes and it did not disappoint. Nick (if I may) has a military style to his writing which as a veteran I could appreciate. However, I think anyone outside the military will enjoy reading this as well. Happy to say I did not see one single Hoah! Now, did this book help me? Well, Nick is a monster. A beast. I mean this in the best possible way. You are just rooting for this incredible hero the entire time and he's writing this with the intention of helping us! His story is simply astounding. He talks about mementos and instead of taping some up, I can just see Nick standing next to me like the little angel or devil on your shoulder saying - Don't eat that crap! This is an opportunity! You're not weak! Well, I am, kinda. And I have all the excuses too. I am certainly not Nick Lavery. But, he makes me want to be better. And I have been. Working out harder, eating better. I did not fully implement his plan. I didn't write everything down and do it his way. It just doesn't seem feasible for me. But I don't have that monster goal to achieve either. I'm enjoying the third quarter of my life and his book has made it better. If any of that makes sense. If anyone reads these? I believe his book can improve your life too. Read. Ruminate. I also believe that if you do things exactly the way he lays out for you; you will achieve/accomplish whatever the heck it is you're trying to do. He's got that right. For me, I had to find a little more balance though. Bottom line is I loved the book and I think it's a must read. Two questions I can think of if I could ask him. He has a friend write a blurb. This guy is a trainer and also sounds like just a total bad ass. I loved his story too. Anyway, he writes about how most of us aren't fit to run and running can make us fatter. I would have loved more detail on that statement. Second, he talked about having a memento of Jocko. Now, after I read this book, coincidentally I had Objective Secure by Jocko and Leif from the library on audio cd I listened to on my commute. As an aside, if you've never had a book read to you by Navy Seals, I highly recommend. Anyway, Jocko talks about one example overseas where there was a elite military unit and they were a bit cocky and wore the baseball caps... If you know what I'm talking about you know. My question would be if he was talking about Nick's unit and how Jocko became someone Nick looks up to.Thank you for the amazing book and everything you have done for this country Nick Lavery. Everyone should read your book.

A must buy
As a hotshot firefighter for the USFS this book is it. Find your why, execute, and accomplish. Leave mediocrity behind, and Stop being shackled like the elephant analogy. I’m off to go smokejump and this book helped me realize no matter how good of a firefighter I think I am there is always more. A good hotshot is a firefighter who can do everything, hose lay, hike, run, run comms, work with aircraft, medicals etc.

Never give up! Never give in!
For such a time as this I was born. Let me be worthy of this moment. We were all born with greatness hidden in a block of marble. Each of us is a masterpiece born to become worthy of the life we have been given.Thank you Nick Lavery for reminding me to never give up on myself because at any moment the trials I am willing to face and the fires I have been willing to walk through May be what gives me the strength to rescue the person I was born to save.

A book that will change everything
I read this book and it really changed my perspective on things. It is not an autobiography, but with how Nick uses his life examples in the way he is giving a "blueprint" to life really opens your eyes. It's not like he is telling us things we don't already know. He just words it to where we really realize that we have everything at our fingertips and it is up to us to put the work in. I highly recommend this book

Great American
I will never forget you telling me that you wanted to be a Combative instructor after your long battle with recovery! You told me you could do it, but man did you go way beyond that goal! Proud of you brother! You really are the epitome of what it means to be an American Hero! Love the book and tell Toni I said hello. Respectfully, Carl Haskins

Wow, talk about motivation!
This book is the kick-in-the-ass I didn’t know I needed! Nick’s story is amazing and inspiring, but his ability to distill his “objective secure” system into something easy to understand & follow is phenomenal. After reading this book, Nick’s example will move you to want to work harder to be the best possible version of yourself, and his teachings will give you the tools you need to succeed in that mission.

Into the mind of a machine
Absolutely awesome and awe inspiring book that takes you into the mindset of a beast of a man.For most people losing a leg in combat would be enough, but not Nick Lavery. Not only has he returned to active combat duty, he excells at it.Get into the mindset of somebody with the drive and determination to do what it takes to not just achieve his goals, but absolutely smash them.Part autobiography, part self help book, 100 percent brilliant..

Inspiring but also very useful
Nick Lavery's story is incredible and worthy of myth. However, I found the structure and framework of his object secure system to be both practical and useful.I'm usually skeptical of these former military books as there tends to be a tenuous link between the war stories and the framework they are sold on. Not so in this case. Yes, there are plenty of war stories but plenty of value in there too for us lesser mortals.I doubt I'll ever have nick's level persistence or commitment to a single goal, but these tools have improved my life already. It is a great read.

Hearing the authors story told adds a few worthy breaks between the intent of the book - sharing a strategy and model to drive improvements and take action for one’s self! The author has laid bear a blue print model and done an excellent job in sharing how to execute it with ACTION this is where so many fail and yet this writer reminds you how it can be done!
