Q: How are the 2mm/3mm/4mm even used when the description says “back not included". Doesn’t missing the back render them useless?

I too was upset because of the lack of 2nd “very needed” piece. I have not used them yet. I do some scrapbooking and, (also punching thicker card stock) it doesn’t really matter, but...... for clothing application it does matter. Maybe if the material it sturdy & thick, it may curl nicely & “snug around” the back? i.e......leather, thick canvas, pleathers, vinyls..... However if it’s to be worn against the skin, I understand the concern. They may very well loosen & pull away because of no backing support.

I'm sorry, however, I do not know as I am not familiar with "crop a dile".

Q: What makes them self baking? How do they stay secure?

I don't know what you mean by self baking. You secure them by using a hammer and a tool to attach the back piece to a front piece.
