No Idea What Brand This Was -- But It's Great
I've only purchased G-Tech drives for years and a couple Fantom drives (7200 rpm) because they had the same insides (Hitachi) at G-Tech drives had, but 75% the cost. But, I edit from 12K and 8K .braw footage and needed an SSD that could hold massive projects. I still don't know what brand this is so I was leery but for the price, I tried one. It was actually great... super reliable after about 1.5 years right now with about 6 TBs of footage on it, varying resolutions, no lag at all.Okay, then I shot a film in 12K and 8K and figured I'd have to turn my footage into proxies (smaller versions of the files) to edit from... nope, not with this. I got a second drive for that project and it's been great, literally taking a break from editing on that right now.I'm a drive snob but I'm amazing by these so far. I'm still skeptical that it'll hold-up but it's been rock solid even though I've taken it into an office, back home, back and forth five days a week so it's not just sitting at home and still hasn't bricked. There's nothing else even close to this value for how much storage you get at these speeds.

ABSOLUTELY STELLAR CUSTOMER SERVICE - This company is the definition of commitment
UPDATE FEB 5: I have been completely blown away by this company's commitment to fixing this problem, which they did with grace, diplomacy, care and urgency. The problem turned out to be the cable. They immediately sent me not one but TWO brand new cables. Swapping out the original cable for one of the new ones completely resolved the problem and the hard drive has not dismounted since, despite me trying everything I could think of to get it to dismount. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AND THEIR PRODUCTS. In my experience over the last two weeks they have done EVERYTHING right and have provided an absolute blueprint for how every business should treat its customers. It is clear beyond a reasonable doubt that they stand behind the products they sell and will go to extraordinary lengths to make sure you, the customer, is satisfied. I did not dream that things would be resolved this way and could NOT be happier. They have earned a customer for life.UPDATE: Company saw my review an immediately contacted me. Extremely determined to help at all costs and to make the situation right. Great customer service on their part and I have been working with them on solutions. I expect that this will be resolved positively and will update accordingly once the various tests have been carried through. So at this point I can say that this company KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND KNOWS HOW TO TREAT A CUSTOMER. That goes a long way in my book. For an SSD drive at this price point, I was expecting rock solid durability, dependability and endurance. Two strikes and the count is full...waiting for the inevitable third strike. Within a month of using this drive it began to dismount itself continuously without any provocation whatsoever. It spends the majority of its existence laying flat on my work space protected from any disruption and yet it will dismount repeatedly in the middle of editing in Lightroom. It is beyond infuriating. My suspicion is that the cable is a pure pile of garbage because looking at how the connection into the drive sits, it's clear that it is tenuous at best... it is nowhere near a tight lock. On top of the random, ghost dismounting, if I so much as brush the cable with an arm as I reach for my phone, it will dismount. Unbelievable. I can't believe that 1200 buys this level of crap attention to something as simple as a cable. On the plus side, it has not dismounted and then failed to remount... in other words, it hasn't died... YET. I continuously back it up to BackBlaze because based on my experience with every other external hard drive manufacturer (one particular lesson cost me 2500 dollars to recover my data) I know this one will fail one day. Given the rapid drop in prices for SSD memory and the obvious crap shelf life of all of them, I would consider buying the cheapest one you can find and investing in multiple, redundant back ups. That way, when the drive fails (and it will) you're only out a couple hundred and you can restore from your redundancies to a new crap drive.

Still fast & Reliable 5 years and a ligtning bolt later
Had it for 5 years now. No issues. Paid 129 back then. Darn inflation.Edit - July 2025- Had a lightning strike right next to my home that fried a lot of things, but this thing is still workingperfectly. I have no reason to give a good review other than it's a rare exception compared to a lot of items. My bluetti power station bricked in my garage at the opposite end of the house. Both me and this HD were prob.20 yards from the strike, that hit just outside my home. The strike blasted the phone (twisted pairs) box lid right off. The power station was around 50 yards away. I do realize, I dodged a bullet not losing this and more.Thinking of getting another one. It was plugged into a computer at the time. They say you should have important files that you keep on a drive unteathered to the grid. Can't speak to why it wants to back up whatever computer I happen to be on at the time. It's nice that it does that, but I usually erase it and we start the dance all over again. I only store on it what I want, not what it wants... :P

DOES NOT WORK WITH NEWER MACBOOKS
I spent 5 to 7 hours attempting to configure this drive to my 2018 MacBook Pro. I also called the company support. Bottom line is drive dismounts EACH AND EVERY TIME you shut down the Mac. DISMOUNTS EACH TIME YOU CLOSE THE LID. The product literature states that it is compatible with Macs. The support person said it hasn’t worked properly with Macs since 2013. Info on box, on Amazon and Company website is not correct. The unit does not work well with newer Macbooks. Granted the installed base of Macs is far smaller than PC’s. And granted that Macs have their issues. Simple truth is it’s a small company that does not have the resources to support the drive’s use with Macs. A very nice little drive as to footprint, but a total waste of you time and money if you are thinking of using with a Mac. Do not buy if you are seeking a compatible drive for the Mac. In fairness to the Company, I did first try the external Samsung ssd that Apple sells in its stores. The Samsung is far worse, not compatible with Mac. My take is the drive might be ok for pc as pc’s are more broadly supported. Also, the reviews mentioning the frail cable and connector are accurate. Further to that, Apple advises to use the Lightning To USB C dongle that is $20. The drive maker claims there is a drive to lightning cable but they can ‘t provide it or tell where to buy it. Support also tried to blame the Apple adapter. I challenged that as the adapter works with my 20 year old printer, my 8 year old ROM and the new stuff as well. Dongle is fine, it’s the drive. Again I fairness to the Company, even large Companies do not support Mac well. Logmein in and GOTOMYPC do not work well on new Macs/Mojave.
