Every parent should read this book.
From having a happy and sunny, secure disposition the author reveals how she gradually closed down, becoming a shy, introverted girl as a direct result of sexual abuse from a family member. Someone who should have protected and shielded her from the outside world instead began grooming her from an early age, breaking every boundary of trust and love she had every right to expect. The affect this abuse had on her was life changing over the years, in a very painful way. Sharing her feelings of worthlessness, shame and guilt her life, while surrounded by a loving husband and family, she was helpless to stop intrusive and damaging thoughts from overwhelming her every waking hour and nightmares while she slept. She charters the very long journey to wellness with lengthy stays in hospital and a faith that would not be quashed. It is not all plain sailing, but her determination to get well is inspirational. She is brave, confronting her abuser in the face of his consistent and manipulative denial and control.Every parent should read this book. Most victims of sexual abuse know their abuser. Her demeanour changed as soon as the abuse started. As parents the more informed we are about bringing up our children and talking to them about their bodies, the more equipped we hope they will be, to speak out when something is wrong.Reading this book was a rainbow of emotions, I cried when I least expected it and laughed when I should. My takeaway from reading this book is that if one person can share their horrific childhood memories, then surely we must acknowledge her bravery by sharing this with others, especially parents.

An eye opening account
Where to start, this memoir about an individual's darkest moments is truly one to read. The strength it must've taken to relive these moments to be able to share them with the world and to shine a light on the effects of such troubles and abuse, how they manifest over years and years. To vicarously live through these memoirs and see how far someone can come, how much they can rebuild and grow as a person, a mother, a sister, a wife, a daughter and a friend, its outstanding. There may be others out there going through similar traumas and are unsure and unknowingly having experiences that Anthea has experienced, and reading this may help in one way or many ways.A well written piece of memory, it encapsulates the emotions, the feelings, the trauma and anguish. The confusion and the disbelief perfectly.Thank you for sharing your story Anthea.

Shh... A beautifully written and incredible story.
A brilliantly written book with in-depth recollections of child sexual abuse. It highlights the long-term damage caused when this happens. Anthea was very young when the abuse started but was afraid to tell anyone and lived in fear for years. Worse still even when the abuse came out no one took it seriously and they expected her to continue visiting her abusers house, something she dreaded. The onset of OCD was clearly a result of the abuse she suffered as was her inability to cope and mental illness. Anthea's story is truly inspiring. A must read for anyone concerned about children's welfare.

An eye opening account to something that happens to 1 in 20 of us!
"Does he deserve that title?"One line that hit me like a ton of bricks and made me consider every relationship I've ever had.A heart breaking but ultimately uplifting true story of Anthea's battle with her childhood trauma. Raw and painful memories captured in such a way it gives you, the reader a chance to understand it and walk a few steps in her shoes. It gives hope that with the right care and support you can move on to a healthier and happier path.
