Youkai Watch DX Black Yokai Watch 2017model

Works perfectly with Dark and Busters medals of the franchise, although fully in Japanese.Also works partially with Dream medals.

This is a Japanese Yokai Watch known as the Black Yokai Watch. The American Yokai Watch medals will not work for it, only Japanese medals. It supports all Japanese Yokai Watch Medals up to Dream medals, however it doesn't fully support Dream medals, for it doesn't say the Yokai's name on a Dream medal. Instead, those who seen the Japanese Yokai Watch anime that covered the Dream Yokai Watch or played Yokai Watch 3 may know what I am about to explain. When you put a Dream medal in a Dream Yokai Watch, it will summon with a roulette. However putting a Dream medal in the Black Yokai watch, it will act as if is about to activate the roulette but won't. As I said before, any other Japanese Yokai medal will fully work. It doesn't have a little summoning chant song for each tribe like the other Yokai Watches, it explains the tribe instead, in a dark way, than you hear the Yokai's name (and if it's a different type of medal like a Busters medal, it will still mention the Yokai's type of Buster mode). It also says different phrases when you press the red button, also, holding the red button will activate it's search mode. Those who seen the Black Yokai Watch anime shorts may know this, but the searching is not for Yokai this time like the other Yokai Watches, but for humans.. (don't worry, you won't actually turn somebody into a Yokai, even if you wanted to xD) releasing the button acts like it found a human, absorbs them, and spits them out into a Yokai. The anime shorts aren't as dark as the may them sound on the commercial either, they were pretty funny as the series already is intended to be. Compared to my American Yokai Watch, it seems to almost be the same size but a little bit smaller. Also, the Black Yokai Watch has an on/ off switch,while the American one does not. It is also not as loud as the American Yokai Watch. All in all, it may not have full function with Dream medals but it still is a neat little watch for the price. Definitely glad I have it!

My son spotted this over my shoulder while I was browsing and really wanted one. I told him they didn't sell them in the US but he could ask Santa for it. Well, Santa delivered and boy was he excited! Yes it only plays Japanese but it works just like his other watches. Mr. Claus also sent of a box of tokens that work with it, Yokai Watch Yokai Medal Busters Second Act Otogi Kibidango Ver. (Box) but there are several other sets that are compatible (just make sure you get the Japanese versions). We had a blast putting the coins in and listening for the original names of the Yo-Kai! I did notice the plastic and the strap on this seemed to be softer and nicer than the regular watch or model zero. Definitely worth the wait to ship overseas!

We were a little bummed it was in Japanese but also on the other hand my son was really excited it was all in Japanese.

This was a Christmas give for one of our Grandson's. He received the cheeper Matel version last year which occupied his time for about 10 seconds. Once he opened the real think he went into orbit. I think he sleeps with it on.

My son thinks this watch is cool. There's a pen hole in the back to get the plate off and insert battery. We had to YouTube a how to video to figure that out. Its in Japanese. If I had known that I probably wouldn't have ordered. And the US Yokai watch medals aren't compatible..another huge downfall.The sounds are awesome, the build is great, not cheap. We considered returning before we gave it to our son but we ultimately left it up to him and he wanted to keep it. I just wish the listing information gave all details.

I purchased 2 of these for both of my sons for Christmas. They don’t work, and I can’t get the base of the watch to turn to release the bottom of the watch to check for batteries. Super frustrating. They do have another Yokai watch received previously (bought at Target) that came with batteries, so I’m not sure what the problem is. Hoping I hear back from someone for a bit to help.

My son says it’s creepy but cool!! He thinks it looks awesome. He was so excited when it arrived. Came with 2 Japanese metals which is good because it does not work with the American metals. Happy with the purchase.

The media could not be loaded. I was really into Yokai watch when it first came out and I own the first two watches. However, I lost interests in the show because there weren't much to do with the Yokai Medals but collecting. Recently, my 6-yo son starts to watch it on Netflix and really likes it. We start to explore the show and the toys together. I have to say this one really caught my eyes, both the aesthetics of the watch and the designs on the medals. It reads all my old medals as well, that is a bonus!! The only complaint I have, which is universal to all the yokai watches, is that these watches, as a toy for younger children, are too heavy to wear. It seems like it was designed for adults.
