Best Thunderbolt Hub for M1 Mac | NOT PORTABLE
I own an M1 Macbook Air (2020) it's a beast of a machine, but only has 2 ports. The Caldigit Elements Hub has been a lifesaver. I use it not just as a USB Hub, but also as a charging device for my Mac and my phone and my smartwatch and my AirPods and my Kindle and my...EVERYTHING. This has really decluttered my desk. It doesn't have HDMI or SD card ports, but since all my wires are either USB A or C (including my Display cable) I don't miss either. I have connected 2 hard drives at the same time to this and found it to work decently well. I found transfer speeds to be slow when I transferred from Hard Disk to Hard Disk, but it might have been an issue with the hard disk and not the Hub. One main point though, this is NOT a portable Hub. The charger is quite big and for good reason. This Hub only makes sense for a desk setup. I keep a regular Apple USB-C Multiport Adapter in my bag when I need to carry my Mac around. But, having said that, the Element Hub is the slimmest Hub in the Caldigit line and whenever I need to shift my entire work setup, I found it quite easy and not that cumbersome. It just was annoying unplugging all my cable management, is all. Note: After losing a Macbook Pro to bad USB Hubs, I would say, spend a bit extra and get the right USB hubs for your device. I would trust only Apple or CalDigit. I have had trouble with a lot of the others.

Excellent connectivity - powered Thunderbolt Hub.
This powered Thunderbolt Hub allowed me to attach an external DVD drive to 24" M1 iMac successfully as the M1 iMac alone was not able to supply the required power to the external DVD drive.

Could've been cheaper, but excellent quality product
Its a plug and play device and has made my M1 mac usable with other devices. Sturdy build, great finish (matches perfectly with the Space Grey on the Mac) and small footprint make it a lifetime product.

The CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub has been an exceptional addition to my workspace. Its sleek, minimalist design complements my setup, and its compact form factor belies the powerful performance it delivers. Performance & Connectivity: Equipped with four Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports and four USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, this hub offers impressive versatility. The Thunderbolt 4 ports provide up to 40Gbps data transfer speeds, accommodating high-resolution displays and fast external storage devices. The USB-A ports, supporting up to 10Gbps, are perfect for connecting legacy peripherals without compromising on speed. One standout feature is the consistent 60W power delivery to the host device, ensuring that my laptop remains charged even when multiple peripherals are connected. Additionally, each Thunderbolt 4 port delivers up to 15W, and each USB-A port provides up to 7.5W, allowing for efficient charging of connected devices. Design & Build Quality: The hub’s aluminum construction exudes durability and quality. Its symmetrical design allows for flexible placement, and the included rubber feet strips ensure it stays securely in place on the desk. Compatibility: Compatibility is broad, supporting macOS, Windows, iPadOS, and Chrome OS. Whether you’re using a MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, or a Windows laptop, the Element Hub integrates seamlessly. Minor Consideration: The only minor drawback is the size of the external 150W power adapter, which is somewhat bulky compared to the hub itself. While it doesn’t affect performance, it does require some consideration when organizing your workspace. Conclusion: Overall, the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub is a robust and reliable solution for expanding connectivity. Its combination of high-speed data transfer, ample power delivery, and solid build quality make it a valuable asset for any professional setup

I needed a high performance USB hub that supports at least 10Gbps for a Samsung T7 1TB portable SSD. The hub needed to support support a cable length of 80cm so I don't have to crawl below my desk to reach the back of my tower PC. It would connect either to a USB 10Gbps USB-A port or a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port of my Asus ProArt Z790-CREATOR WIFI motherboard. I tried a couple of different options: - USB 10Gbps hub designed for laptops (very short cable) extended with an allegedly 10Gbps USB certified extension cable. The hub works well without an extension cable. But it simply doesn't work when the extension cable is in the middle. - USB 10Gbps hub shipped with an 80cm cable. Abyssal performance and not reliable. So I settled for the most costly option: the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element. It works reliably and my Samsung T7 SSD delivers the expected performance. The first screenshot shows a throughput test of the Samsung T7 SSD directly connected to the Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port. The second screenshot shows a throughput test of the Samsung T7 SSD connected to the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub. The tests above were performed under Windows 11 Pro. The hub also works under Ubuntu Linux but I didn't perform any throughput test.

Works well, but upstream T4 input slot is in an inconvenient position… had to use a right-angled cable!
