Hands-On Business Intelligence with Qlik Sense

This is one of the best books read from the Qlik Perspective. It give the 360 view of the environment of Qlik not just the basic info but also some of the key advance capabilities of the product. I personaly loved teh Advance analytics part which really shows how flexible and powerful product Qlik is. I understand the Qlik Sense and QlikView are one of the best tool in the industry but at the same time writing the book which can really help various personas is also critical. And I think the authors has done justice with this book for all kind of readers of the book. I wish them luck for future ventures and good luck to Publisher and Kaushik Solanki. Even if the the book contains links for colored images and colored digital copy of the book, I find it inappropriate to publish such a book in black and white, knowing the importance of colors in Qlik visualizations. The book is 400+ pages (fragile), but don't get it wrong, each chapter can be done in a couple of hours (lots of images, which is not bad at all). Concerning the content, if you are completely new to Qlik Sense, then why not, you might learn the basics. If not, then look for something else.

As stated in the headline, this is a solid starter book. One could go from beginner to intermediate in Qlik Sense knowledge with this book. The book progresses as one would expect, with a history and the basics of loading/profiling data. Nice to show both processes, especially for me as I never use the Data Manager. The data modeling section was probably the best section, for me. It reinforced concepts and I learned a thing or two. Good examples and easy to follow, probably the strength of the book. It lost a star when it gets to creating a sample application. There were two QVDs missing from the downloads, so a couple of objects would not show data. Since this app is used throughout, the same issue flowed. ***I posted an issue on Github about this***. One other improvement would have been to include the sample formulas so they could be cut/pasted. I did not have access to Google Big Query so I could not work through ODAG and maps. I just read those sections. If you get this book now, which I still recommend, be aware that some functionality has been changed from the version this book was created with. 4 out of 5 stars for me. I am looking forward to new offerings from the authors. They put together a good product.

I was really disappointed that all the data visualization was in black and white... They referred to different colours in the text ( for example the red bar represents sales ) yet everything in black and white.Also found the text was clear but the graphs were blurry and difficult for me to read. Ironic.
