100% variable lighting output is awesome. max is very bright.
bought this and a fan for power outages. picked right on both items..this lamp is pretty perfect for this need. the variable brightness dial is a big step up from buttons you push repeatedly to get maybe 3 settings. this is a full blown rheostat, and it turns smoothly through the lights entire possible range..on max, it brightens my whole living room to a degree you can read print, down low where you get max battery life, you can see pretty clearly, and navigate easily..the 4 d batteries in the bottom lend it weight and good stability..seems pretty well made, though the battery compartment is a bit less so. the bottom cover screws on solidly. might could use an o ring to make it watertight..I can see where it would be useful in a campsite..the rotating on off knob is awesome. its really bright on max. kicks a candles a** !

Lite & Bright!
Small, but mighty! Lightweight compared to the heavy lanterns I was replacing. I’m 72 and these are easy for me to carry from room to room. I bought 3 to make it safer to get around the house during a power outage. The batteries are easy to change and operation is simple. I’m considering giving a couple to my nephew as a wedding gift!

Highest Rated +2500lm Lanterns by Users
Overall, the unit is better constructed than it's counterparts. It "looks and feels" more robust. The variable light adjustment is unique. At $27, the price is at the low end for a +2500lm lantern..On the other hand there are negatives. The rechargeable and modern versions have the following problems:1. The tungsten filaments in the former produces a tan-brownish color light, very annoying and unnatural..2. The modern variant casts a white light. It is cold and harsh..3. Duration is short for rechargeable. On user reported 2.5 hours. As for the alkaline battery powered unit, he reported a 5.5 hour life..Power outages in Seattle are 3.0 to 14.5 hours. Only the modern model is able to cover the short end. It needs three sets or 12 D batteries to handle 14.5 hours. As for the rechargeable variant, the unit needs continuous recharging. Since all outlets are non-functional, that model is totally useless in any emergency..4. The light rating is 2500lm rating. That is equal to a 166.7 watt bulb. From direct observation, the product does cast a brighter light in comparison to a table lamp with a 100 watt frosted LED. However, it is not that much stronger. I estimate 125 watts perhaps..A better alternative is to invest in a 300-watt portable power station. Plug one or two table lamps into the unit, and your living room is lit for the entire evening. A 100 watt frosted LED bulb only consumes 4 watts of electricity..Unfortunately, lithium-based units are expensive, ranging from $250 to $350. However, Amazon customer returns are cheaper. I was able to buy a $300 camping unit for $127.

Good lantern
Good lantern ,bright enough to light a room. I keep it in the house for when the lights go out due to storms or any other situations not having electricity.

Utter failure with two Langerns - Do not buy
I bought my first lantern one year ago and was so pleased with it I bought a second one here this summer.I recently charged both lanterns and went on a five night camping trip. The first time I turned one lantern on it would not illuminate, but rather gave a brief “flash” of light when the “on button” was about 1/3rd on. I fiddled with the on button, turning it on/off and testing settings for the on button. Nothing changed.I then tried the second lantern. Exactly the same problem. This common problem now meant the one-year old example and the new Summer ‘24 example were both non-operable.When I got home I again placed each lantern on the charger, just to see if the batteries had not earlier charged correctly. I fully charged both lanterns. Again I only got that brief “flash” of light and then the lanterns went dark on each lantern. The problems continued.I am now out over $72.00 for two non-operable lanterns. If I could I would give zero stars as my rating of this lantern.I am back to searching for a reliable rechargeable camping lantern which I can use for Fall ‘24 camping trips.Anyone else have this problem?Frustrated in California.
