just like the real thing...
Hopefully, the average first aid or emergency kit owner will never encounter a wound requiring a dressing this large. But if you do, this one will absorb or cover quite a bit of bad news. The dressing is in a standard peel-apart paper & plastic protective wrapper — sturdy enough, but subject to wear and tear with handling or packed into a tight kit. The dressing itself is a 12" x 26" absorbent pad sealed into an oversized sleeve or cover to make sort of a packet. The oversized cover allows the pad to be folded down to 12" x 14" or 12" x 7" or 6" x 7" depending upon what needs to be covered or absorbed — without getting all bunched up and weirdly shaped as you try to wrap or tape it into position. Others have suggested cutting to smaller sizes, which I would not. Cut open, there will be a mess of non-absorbent scrim layers and the absorbent pad which seems to be a loose felted paper pulp. I would advise just folding, or using a smaller dressing.I did not have a bucket of blood for testing, but the pad quickly absorbed and held 24 fl. oz. of water. Rolled up and squeezed out, the non-absorbent double facing side (blue line) was immediately dry to the touch. I was surprised to find the paper pulp filling, but for emergency use this dressing provides a much better package than a roll of paper towels.

They're Huge!
I didn't realize just how large these would be until they showed up. At first when I opened the box I thought I had ordered a pillow and forgot about it. While on the larger side they will make a great addition to my emergency kit. While I hope I never have to use them I'm confident they will work well as the one I tested worked great and was very absorbent.

Easily covered a 9" wound when folded in half!
My mom came to stay with us after a major gastro surgery and she had a 9"-10" wound vertically on her abdomen, it was not easy to find dressings that would cover this and provide enough protection. We used these folded in half and they were plenty big enough. We'd use them any time she had to go back for follow up appointments because all of the moving around and bending would cause excess bleeding from the wound. These things are really massive, but they worked very well for my use-case!

Great for a larger wound
These pads are big. Not what you'd typically need for the average household need. That being said, if you did happen to need something this size, they seem to be good quality. They are really absorbent and held a surprising amount of water when I tested one. Hopefully, they wouldn't be needed for a household injury since they are quite big, but they might be useful in an after care type situation. I'm not sure that I would cut them to smaller sizes, but I guess that's really just up to the individual. Overall, it seems like a nice product that will hold up well and is highly absorbent.

Very large pad handy for covering equally large wounds.
Essentially the same as an ABD pad, although a little thinner than most I have used, and a WHOLE lot bigger!
