Hard to lift all balls together
The media could not be loaded. This is so hard, you have to control your breathing out as well as in. I can just manage to get 1 of the balls to the top. But hopefully in time I can get all 3 balls to the top and improve my breathing.I use this once a day

Simple lung capacity training
The media could not be loaded. This came well packaged and is perfect for building up lung capacity. It's not as easy as I imagined it would be! I got it for my mum who has ILD, and she is having to work at it to get the first and second balls in the air. I'm really pleased with this item, as it is a motivational instrument that gives instant gratification, as in you can see right away how much progress you're making. It's also small enough to pop in a cupboard when not in use. The instructions suggest using it every 2 hours, but I imagine that would be for people with very poorly lungs or those who have a specific goal in mind. It's simple and effective, and I do recommend it if your lungs are in need of a good workout.

An easy to use Respirometer
Came with simple assembly instructions and guide as to how to use. Seems to be quite well made although the tube is slightly flimsy. However this may not be a problem, long term, if it is used carefully. In practice you suck steadily on the tube mouthpiece and depending on your lung's abilities the balls will rise. The left ball and middle ball rise fairly easily but the right hand one is more of a challenge. (note that ball colours can vary from the ones shown)I selected it because I have some breathing difficulty so, time will tell, if there is any improvement. However it is easy, and fun, to use so it's worth trying it. They do suggest using it every two hours which may be a little difficult for busy users. Happy to recommend.

I'm Surprised How Much I Really Suck...
This respirometer is designed for INHALING air through it - you're not supposed to blow. Its purpose is to measure the rate at which you can inhale, or in other words, the volume of air you can pull into your lungs per second. It's compact, well made, and good value for money.Sucking on the end of the tube pulls the balls upwards, first the blue, then yellow, then green. The object is to keep as many balls at the top, for as long as possible. Blue indicates your incentive flow rate is 600cc per second, yellow 900cc/s, and green 1200cc/s. I was surprised I can manage all three quite easily, so my lungs must be rather healthy.I recommend you don't blow into this device, because doing so will fill it with moist breath, and it will then need taking apart to wash. Suck air from it only, and your breath will not enter, keeping it clean and dry inside. Then, it's safe for multiple users, so long as you remove the mouth piece and wash it each time.I also own a spirometer that measures lung capacity by total volume of air, and together with this device I now have a reference for both how much air I can get inside my lungs, and with this device, how efficiently I can do that. It will be useful as a way of monitoring my health, going forward. Repeated use of this device is also a good form of lung exercise, to maintain and improve performance.I'm delighted with this, and I happily recommend you purchase one. Think of it as an inexpensive exercise device!

Consult a NHS respiratory physiotherapist
Because of lung conditions, a NHS respiratory physiotherapist recommended me to use a POWERbreathe device to help improve my breathing. I didn’t get on with that device (even after replacing the first one, which failed). I’ve now tried this JS Deep Breathing Lung Exerciser as an alternative. TBH, I don’t know if I’ll be disciplined enough to keep using it regularly. Only time will tell.On opening the package, it smelt pretty bad, so there was no way I was going to inhale from this before washing it thoroughly, just leaving it to air was not enough. The instruction leaflet does include washing instructions which were easy to follow. However, the leaflet says that “You should use your Respirometer every two hours, while you are awake” and “Cleaning is recommended, after every 3 uses”. If those instructions are followed (how many of us can interrupt other activities every two hours through the day?), I’d be disassembling this, cleaning it, drying it, and reassembling it, at least twice per day. If I’m inhaling through it, I want it to be clean, particularly the mouthpiece, but really the whole thing. However, practicality means that is fairly unlikely (unless perhaps I bought a second one, so that one could be drying whilst one is in use), so I’m dubious about whether I am disciplined enough to keep using it.So, does it function? Yes. Does it improve lung function? I’m not qualified to say. Do I think I’ll keep using it regularly? Hmmm, probably not. Is it priced reasonably? Possibly not – it seems expensive for what it consists of. Is it registered as a medical device in the EU/UK? Not that I can see. Are there any EU/UK standards mentioned on the packaging/instructions/device? Not that I can see. If you haven’t bought this already, you might want to speak to a NHS respiratory physiotherapist to see if they would recommend this or an alternative instead.

Useful For Home Use
We both suffer from respiratory conditions, wife asthma and me COPD, so thought nothing lost giving this a go.Everything about it is straightforward, nothing should be confusing as you just have to push the pipe onto the tubes, cleaning a bit more but still very easy to follow the instructions provided.Remembering it's an 'inhale' version so it's the amount of lung capacity you can summon to raise the various balls, not a blow into it one that makes you go dizzy. We both had a go with differing results and in the couple of days we have noticed a slight improvement for both of us having a go every few hours, again following the instructions, we made a bit of a game out of it just to add some fun :)I can't say if it would help others just my own observations, I don't expect it to reverse a chronic condition, but if it helps even slightly that will bring us both some relief and that's worth it for me.
