Hardly Pro and all been seen before
I've now added a few of the Apress titles to my library and I won't be adding more. There are various books devoted to Power Query but fewer than get into 'M' in any detail; I'd hoped this might be one of them. The first 1/3 (just an approximation) is devoted to connecting to data sources. Fine, but leave that in your introductory texts.Next we have Power Query and the standard (for this publisher) of the run through the menu and the various options we've seen in use countless times before: split a column, hit pivot. All, of course, devoid of any real-world problems that these might solve. So you'll need to largely read the text and hope you can identify what is going to be suitable to your specific needs.'M', as the mashup language, has around 30 pages tacked on and is, once again, generally a list of a few things you might expect for anyone who's even looking for more detail: data types, lists, etc. All very standard and something that, in a font not as large as they tend to use here, is something that would fill half that number in a normal publication and is the kind of content you'll find on the web.I understand this publisher has their 'Cookbook' series but there's just nothing here that supports the cost. At near $90 for the printed version, it's a repeat of content used elsewhere and simply not presented with anything more of value than what's become somewhat standard for these volumes: point out an option, offer a screenshot of it in action and hope the reader can piece these together into a solution.I dare say the author knows his stuff but it's not reflected in this publication.
