Planted 260 bulbs in 2 hrs with this! MADE IN AMERICA!
I bought this because we had purchased 260 bulbs from Costco and there was no way I was going to dig that many holes manually. The price is expensive on this. I really couldn't believe that I was about to pay this amount of money for an auger to plant bulbs. However, being made in the USA is excellent. Other reviews of the Chinese augers here on Amazon are 50-50 hit and miss and I didn't want to deal with that. This did the job with my 1/2" corded dewalt drill, no problems. It stumbled sometimes if there was a larger rock but for the most part it was painless.I will note that the cutter on ours severally dulled after all the bulbs were done. The cutting edge doesn't appear to be replaceable so I assume that one could take a file and sharpen it back to an edge that would cut the earth.I will note that it took us roughly 2 hrs to plant all 260 bulbs we had, and half of that time was putting the bulbs on the ground for layout... so perhaps an hr to actually drill the holes. We had a method where I would drill the hole and move onto the next spot while my wife plopped in the bulb and covered it with dirt. Hoping that they pop up next spring!I would actually be half tempted to get their 2" model but since most of the bulbs we planted are tulips and smaller ones the larger size I just wollowed out the hole. I can't see spending another $50 for their 2" version just to plant 12 bulbs that are 2" or bigger in size.I like this and I hope it lasts years to come as far as planting bulbs.

Decent tool
I am probably not being fair. Let me say the auger worked, but being in the Arizona desert and trying to drill a hole the entire 24 inches is probably a little or a lot more then this was designed for. The soil is very very hard has lots of clay and very rocky. You would be that way being baked in the scorching sun year after year. I had to re-weld the cutting edge and tip about 5 times and regrind the edges. Water soak the holes and wait a couple hours for the water to disappear before going back to drill them. Like I said, it worked took a lot of work on my part but I knew that would be the case. All in all it did work. If you have soft soil and not planning on drilling to the center of the earth this is a great tool for the price.

Good Tool For What It Is Supposed To Do
Reviews have stated that this auger struggles in clay. What I found using my 3/8" drill to go though clay was I had to have my drill running at full speed before hitting the dirt and then I had no problem with it bogging down.Another complaint is rocks. This is only a 1.75" auger!! If it hits rocks bigger than half its diameter then it will choke (my guesstimation). That should be no surprise at all. I removed rocks as large as 4" from my hole but where there were no rocks it dug right into the clay.Roots are another problem mentioned. Again this is not a tractor mounted auger and I would expect that there should be some kickback from cutting the roots as tree roots are very strong. This is what I found when I dug a hole within 1' of an oak tree. I had to reverse it several times and restart at full speed (expecting kickback when I hit the roots again) and I finally cut through the roots. I drilled the full length, 2', into the ground using this method and had a hole deeper that what I was originally intended. This is an excellent tool, well worth the investment, but realize that there are limitations to what this auger can do.

PERFECT for fertilizing Trees
I fertilize trees by filling foot deep holes with Milorganite around the drip line. As the trees get bigger, so do the drip lines. I used to use a 1" pipe and hammer into the ground. Yeah that was dumb. I got this auger, and it is perfect. It has a notch so it doesn't slip in the drill chuck, don't be fooled by the cheaper ones!I fertilized my live oak of about 5 years, and needed approximately 20 holes 2' apart (drip line is about 12-15 foot in diameter.) It took me literally like 5 minutes to do. With my old method, I was out there for like an hour at least. In general, this tills the sandy florida soil very quickly, so even planting annuals and such would be much easier with this product.I chose the heavy duty, and in hind sight I think that was the way to go. Every once in a while you'll bang into something hard and I think the extra reinforcement on the first cutting blade is well worth it.Also, I got this like 2 days after I ordered it. Great mom and pop USA company apparently, after checking out their website. Thanks!

We use these to drill holes on the beach to set up umbrellas. The cutting wedge breaks through the sea shells with ease. Have also used it in a gravel parking lot to dig holes. This product makes quick work of most any material you ask it to dig through.

Auger is a true labor saver
The soil I wanted to plant in was very tough, compacted clay. It was what was left after the original contractor graded the subdivision. So it's been that way for a million years or so.With a post-hole digger it would take about a half-hour to dig a hole about 10" across and a foot deep. The soil is that hard. With this auger, the same thing can be done in just a few minutes. It cuts through the compacted clay with ease but you'll have to make sure your drill has enough torque to drive the auger. I used an 18-volt Dewalt hammer drill with a 1/2" bit.

Durable auger
I use this for fertilizing trees, using a corded very heavy duty 1/2" drill to drive it. This auger seems to be very durably constructed, heavy and securely welded. I expect it to last much longer than the previous auger I owned. I would have liked to see a few more turns of spiral around the shaft, but this design is quite serviceable, if only you need to lift it more frequently to clear dirt from the hole. I think this product is an excellent choice for anyone wanting a durable auger.
