First of all this is the first product review I have ever written on Amazon. I have shopped on the Amazon website for a number of years and always look over user reviews before making my decision to purchase products.I love this sleeping bag system. It is so simple but yet very effective and versatile. With the four piece modular system you get a green patrol bag, black intermediate bag, a gortex bivy cover and a compression sack to store everything. This system allows you to use one or multiple pieces together depending on weather conditions. The green bag is good for temps down to 30 deg. The black bag is good for temps from 30 deg. down to negative 10 deg. Put both together and it will be good to negative 40-50 degrees. The bivy is a water resistant cover that will keep everything dry.I have tried the black intermediate bag with the bivy twice. My first try was a back yard trial when the temp. started at about 45 degrees and got down to about the mid to upper 30's. I used a cot and a Thermarest Ridge Rest Solar Sleeping Pad. I actually left much of the side unzipped for ventilation and I was plenty warm all night. I think I could have used the green patrol bag and been just fine.The second try was camping with temps starting at 40 deg and dropping to 28 deg the next morning. This was only my second time tent camping. I was in a Coleman Hooligan 2 tent sleeping on the ground with the Thermarest pad for cushion and insulation. Again I used the black bag with bivy cover. At first I was very comfortable and slept well. I had left the bag partially unzipped and by morning the temp had dropped enough for frost to be on the outside of the tent. The wind had also picked up slightly so it was getting a little cool but not cold. Part of this was due to a rookie mistake. I should have had my feet facing into the wind so the cool air would not get into the opening of the bag. I was impressed with the bag and would use it again.After reading mostly positive reviews for the product my only hold up was buying a used or like new item. The condition from the seller was listed as "New Old Stock- Never issued, never used, not individually packaged. May show signs of extended storage in boxed, bulk government storage. Crisp and clean genuine military surplus. May contain manufacturer/government markings." When mine arrived it was exactly as described or better. It had now signs of use and everything worked as it was supposed to.I am 5' 10" and the bag is very comfortable for me. It is a mummy style bag with extra insulation at the feet and a draw string hood. My brother is about 6' 2" and was hesitant to order until he tried mine. He does not have a lot of extra room left over but said it works for him. He ordered one and is also pleased with it.Overall I am very happy with this sleeping bag system. I hope my review will help you make your decision whether or not this will work for you. I think for the price of new never used item it is definitely worth considering.

This item is a "must-have" for every prepper or anyone thinking about hiking or camping. These sleeping bag systems don't stand a chance against anything else. You can tell the high quality of the system right off the bat and keep in mind that the US troops use these systems overseas. I've spoken to my friends that are veterans and they also agreed that no other sleeping systems even comes close. If you live in a warmer climate, you would be fine with even the intermediate bag, the patrol bag, or even the bivvy cover if it's really warm. Keep in mind that when talking about survival, you have 3 sleeping bags in this system. Even using the bivvy cover as a sleeping bag and putting a pad or tarp underneath it will go a long way. You can use this system without a tent or a tarp because the bivvy cover makes it waterproof. This sleep system enables you to sleep comfortably in rain, wind, snow, or any other conditions comfortably. Brand new, these sleeping systems are extremely expensive but definitely worth every dollar. A best bet would be to buy a lightly used system or a "very good" condition system for a fraction of the brand-new price and still have all the benefits that this product offers. Keep in mind that this system weighs close to 12 lbs with everything if weight is a factor for you. Also since the bivvy can be used as a makeshift sleeping bag by putting a tarp or a pad underneath and having some kind of cover, you actually have 3 sleeping bags for 3 people in a chaotic scenario or if someone forgot to bring their sleeping bag.

Kinda of what. I remember. Using. Years. Ago,this is a little. Heavier. Then some of the light. High tech. Stuff. I got. But good on size. For me i am 5.7. 240Lbs. And fitting. Just rite,,and of course. For the price. If found around. The hundred. Range. Again. Cant beat it ,and it is well made,,now if you were. A climbing. Person. No this wouldn't. Work. An less it was set at a base camp ,,,,or long. Trecking ,person,,now if ur going. Out in a north winter. A must have, just like a canada goose. Coat.,when up in the north,,,,so again. For the price. And it can be used. In warm. And cold. Go for it you will not be disappointed,,,,Will had the opportunity. To use this system. In 0.degrees,,,and stayed warm and comfortable. With the right. Ground padding and ,,,with out a tent ,,,a must have piece.for your survival. Kit ,If u r. Gonna. Sleep. In. Zero. Degrees. Take. A, p e e. ,bottle. It will make the different,,this really. I've been issued way worse TA50/ECWS in the past. Knowing this was the older Woodland Pattern, I expected a well used product; functional yet cosmetically rough. Compared to the price of a new set, this is a super deal. All the zippers work and the seems are tight. There's no bunching/gathering in any of the pieces I've inspected (sign of emergency exit placing high stress on zipper seams and runners). There's no scent of mildew or body funk (i suspect these were thoroughly cleaned). The insulation is fairly well segregated so there's very little migration.For you older prior service guys who may have used the old down cotton bags, I will say that the Patrol or Intermediate bag alone is not as warm. But I would give my "seat of the pants rating" as warmer than the down bag when you combine both black and green bags. The bivy is great because you won't get soaked as bad but it still breathes. You won't have to wax or scotchguard only realizing too late it was a bad idea locking in that body moisture.I'd rate the system I got as:Stuff Sack - 4 of 5 (slight wear)Bivy - 5 of 5 (like new)Patrol Bag - 3 of 5 (some fraying)Intermediate - 4 of 5 (slight wear)Edit/Note: The green Patrol bag is the most used in the Service (from my memory) so just be aware that it is the item likely to have the most wear and tear.

Received these MSS bags very promptly, they were in military grade/quality and in good shape, but there was a small issue with one of the bivys.Contacted the company, ozarkoutdoorz, and they, in the middle of their Christmas rush, fixed the problem-- outstanding!So, you can purchase from this company with confidence that they have your back. The ladies I spoke with, were as nice as could be, and made things quite easy!It is great when a company has integrity, and that would be no surprise, since this is a company comprised of Vets. Doing business and supporting them was a bonus.In the mean time, my wife and I are practicing utilizing these MSS, swapping the bags in & out of the bivies, coordinating & snapping the heavy duty snaps, and zipping those substantial YYK zippers, getting in & out etc. Practicing, because, being in the possibly cold outdoors is no time to learn the intricacies of these sleep systems, since they are not your average commercial sleeping bags.

Bought this a couple of years ago and this is just a super deal. Mine was advertised as used, came smelling a touch musty, but otherwise all components, while used, were (and still are) in great condition. I've used the patrol bag as a summer bag (super nice bag, soft, light, easy to pack) used the heavier bag when I expect the night to get cold. Used both for some winter camping, and have also used the bivvy. This is a great set and value. Design of all the pieces allow it to be all snapped together when you're using it. This is especially handy when you have multiple bags and the divvy going - you don't end up all turned around in in your bag. For bivvy sleeping, I throw an air mattress in the bivvy before the sleeping bags -- works great. Not as compressible or light as down bags, but for the money, what you get here is pretty spectacular.

i purchased used in like new condition and it was missing a few buttons. Thats not like new condition it also said no rips or tears. Parts of system are missing i would but from another vendor as i purchased one a few months back from a different company and it was like described!

I bought mine in used "very good" condition, but it came in what I consider to be a bit closer to "good" condition, but no major complaints other than that. All zippers are in good shape. The filling of both bags, which is not a down filling, is in a bit of a matted down/compressed state of its life cycle, but should still provide good insulating qualities and certainly has useful life left in it. The bivy, in my opinion, is the best value of this package--it came in good shape, with no apparent tears or anything, and passed all my ruggedness tests. This system is a great thing to keep in the back of your truck or trunk of your car during the winter months in case of emergency ; )
