Little Women: Collectible Clothbound Edition (Abbeville Illustrated Classics)

When I was little, my great aunt gave me a beautiful illustrated version of Little Women, and it influenced my development as a strong woman -- Jo March became my hero, as she was for so many girls. I now have a great granddaughter who, at two years old, already loves books, and I hope when she is older, she will also love Little Women. For Christmas, I wanted to give her a beautiful illustrated edition like the one I had, so I bought this one, and wrote a message to her in the front. I especially like the fact that this edition has an entire section devoted to the history of illustrations for Little Women.

This is a beautiful edition of Little Women. I especially liked the illustrations and the story behind the original illustrators. The pages were smooth and the binding was very sturdy. This would make a great gift or an addition to anyone's library.

Abbeville has done a FANTASTIC job with this book. The book has wonderful introduction about the numerous artists that illustrated these books, including a specific focus on Louise's sister, May, who illustrated the first publication of this book. This publication is not like many of the other cheaply made "retro-classic " publications, but has a very strong binding; thick boards; high grade paper for pages, and high quality replications of the Burd's original illustrations. Abbeville needs to make more of these! I am a huge fan, and I was ecstatic when I received it! A+++++

Beautiful edition!! My daughter’s favorite book and so she loves this unabridged, wonderfully bound edition. The cloth bound cover adds an elegance to the printing and the illustrations are beautifully done. Highly recommend for anyone who loves this book.

This review is for the Abbeville Press edition of "Little Women." As classic books like "Little Women" are no longer under copyright, a lot of companies are printing editions geared toward the burgeoning "beautiful books" market with artistic covers, but once you're past the "pretty cover," the overall quality can leave something to be desired. This is a well-made and substantial edition of "Little Women," with an interesting introduction about the history of Little Women illustrators (with examples of their work), and illustrations by Clara Burd throughout. I have only skimmed it, but I didn't notice any typos. One flaw is the font is rather small, but otherwise, it's an excellent choice for those looking to add a well-made, illustrated, "beautiful book" edition of "Little Women" to their home library.

How can you go wrong with a classic? This book is very sturdily made and the illustrations are also classic and beautiful. I bought it as a souvenir keepsake book for myself, but it’s also here in the hope of instilling the love of reading in my grandchildren. And what better book to start out with than Little Women!

I bought this book for my granddaughter’s 10th birthday because Little Women was my favorite book as a child, and I wanted her to experience the same wonder I did. This edition is absolutely gorgeous—the clothbound cover and illustrations make it feel truly special, like a keepsake that will last a lifetime. The quality is excellent, and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. A perfect gift for any young reader or Little Women fan!

Perfect present!

This book is absolutely gorgeous! I've been eyeing several hardcover editions of my favourite childhood book. I'm so glad I got this one because it's the best. The whole book is beautiful, from the cover to the type. The illustrations are so lovely. There are black and white drawings and there are also full colour painted ones. The binding is high quality. It's totally worth the price. I will buy some more copies to give to my nieces. I think I'll also buy 'The Secret Garden' and 'A Christmas Carol' from the same publisher. If you're looking for a cloth-bound book that is heirloom worthy, get this book now. You won't regret it.

Can't get over how beautiful this copy is! I'd been looking all over for an elegant hardcover with a somewhat muted colour palette and this one is perfect. I'm yet to open it but hopefully the print inside is as good as outside. Some reviews mentioned there not being many illustrations but I didn't purchase the book for them specifically so I don't mind. It could be a dealbreaker depending on what you're looking for. Also I only chose standard delivery but it arrived the very next morning! Currently unwell so wanted to treat myself to a pretty version of one of my favourite, cosy books and I'm glad I did.
