K&N Cold Air Intake System: High-Flow Air Filter, Increase Performance & Acceleration: Compatible with 2022-2026 Subraru/Toyota: BRZ, GR86, 69-8624TC

I saw a lot of comments saying that they lost power after the installation. I also experienced throttle lag and a loss in torque especially at low RPMs. However, the issue solved itself after I drove the car around for about an hour straight. The MAF sensor needs some time to read the new airflow and adjust accordingly. Once it gets enough readings it becomes more adept at using the new intake. It has great throttle response now and a noticeable increase in power. Great quality materials and super easy to install. Took me about 20 minutes. Engine bay sounds a lot better and it also made my cat-back exhaust tone deeper and pop more. Overall definitely worth the money.

Can’t speak to whether I have experienced any horsepower gains, but it sounds incredible, throaty and aggressive at low rpm under load, screaming to a crescendo at higher rpm. Throttle responsiveness has improved a touch too. I followed the directions and watched a YouTube video and took my time with installation but it was relatively easy. I did add a bunch of heat tape to better secure the heat shield and to hopefully prevent heat soak. All in all great bang for the buck in terms of making the drive more exciting and dramatic.

I installed this K&N cold air intake on my GR86 because I was hoping for exactly what the product promises: better performance and acceleration. I didn't install it for a day or two and immediately write a bad review. I drove with it on my car for nearly a month before deciding it simply wasn't working for me. My biggest problem was low-RPM throttle response. The car felt noticeably more sluggish and less responsive than it did with the factory intake. Instead of feeling like a performance upgrade, it made the engine feel less eager, particularly at lower RPMs. After giving it a fair amount of time, I finally removed it and put the OEM intake system back on. And I immediately preferred the car with the factory intake. That's the part that really disappointed me. I spent a lot of time researching performance modifications for the GR86 before buying this, and I had high hopes that this would be a worthwhile upgrade. Unfortunately, my real-world experience was the opposite. The factory intake system on these cars wasn't thrown together by accident. There's a tremendous amount of engineering that goes into the airbox, intake tract and airflow characteristics of a modern engine. In my experience, replacing that system with this intake did not make my GR86 perform better. Could this product work differently on another vehicle or with a different combination of modifications? Maybe. I'm only reviewing my actual experience on my GR86, and for my car, I wasn't impressed at all. If you're looking to spend money on performance for a GR86, I'd personally put that money somewhere else. Tires, suspension, exhaust, or other modifications that actually change the driving experience would be much higher on my list. This was honestly one of the most disappointing "performance" products I've purchased for any of my vehicles. The good news is that Amazon was great about helping me return it for a refund even though I was a little outside the normal return window. For my GR86: the OEM intake went back on, and that's where it's staying. If you're considering this specifically for a GR86, I'd skip it.

Excellent product

I have been buying k and n intakes for years and had them on multiple cars. They are usually good quality. However this kit has serious fitment issues and is not very stable. I would recommend getting a different intake with better fitment

The installation is done easily. I’ve had this intake for a year an a half and still enjoy it. It makes your car sound better. Better acceleration.

Missing parts had to call k&n for them to ship the parts an they send the wrong part. Quality going down hill to me

Super straight forward install. Removal of stock airbox and installation of the cold air intake took about a half hour with a flat head screwdriver and a 10mm socket. It sounds great and there is a very obvious increase in throttle response.

caused my car to be slightly but noticeably slower, I monitored data log using scan tools and confirmed engine was reducing fuel and ignition timing. switched back to stock intake and the issues went away. E-mailed K&N support and offered them data logs. waiting for their response. Sounds really cool, but I'm not going to use it at the expense of loosing power and engine health.

Easy to install, sounds great in my 2025 gr86.

I gotta say I’ve used this on my 2024 GR86 for about 2 years now, it works however I was a little let down by the quality from a brand like K&N, when I got it I discovered during the install that the air box was scratched but who cares you can’t see that, but the intake pipe where the Maf sensor gets installed must have been welded wrong as I had too file down the excess metal so the maf would actually slide in and out with out any issues. Now that was it for install issues. It is a very annoying install lots of cutting your own gaskets and stuff which just seems weird for a not cheap intake system but what ever I like working on my own car. Jump forward a year and I’m working on my car to discover the stick on heat shielding that they give you to put on the outside of the box had come off and was now resting on my headers and slowly starting to burn. I will say not very impressed and I am considering replacing it for something that hopefully won’t have so many quality control issues and won’t try to burn my car down. I waiting to write this review because one I wanted to see if I would have any further issues but also just cause I never leave reviews however for $500 i want to make sure people know you may experience all this.
