This machine is an absolutely great tool for making stockinette tubes quickly and easily! I had mixed feelings about whether or not to purchase this thing based on negative reviews I had been reading. I have to say that I am extremely impressed, and it has been worth every dollar spent. They even throw in extra needles in case any break, although I can't even think how you would break one, they're that sturdy. The circumference of a finished beanie in Caron - Simply Soft (doubled for warmth) is big enough to fit a child to medium-sized adult head with a little wiggle room. My boyfriend has a large noggin and he can squeeze into one of the hats, but it isn't very comfortable. A finished tube, laid flat and unstretched, is close to six to eight inches wide, depending on the yarn used. The most important advice I can give you is to choose the RIGHT YARN for the machine. I have used a wide variety of weights and fibers and here is what I think are the best choices: 1. Worsted Weight - Caron Simply Soft. I can't say enough about how great the Addi Express works with this yarn. I've made scarves, hats, and blanket panels and they turn out great. Not a dropped or twisted stitch to be seen with more than 800 rows on the longest piece I've knit. I cast on and just crank the handle, most of the time I just watch TV and mindlessly knit, that's how dependable the combination is! 2. Worsted Weight - Lion Bran Vanna's Choice. Very occasionally the machine doesn't quite catch a full stitch and splits the yarn on a needle, but it has never been a huge problem as long as I keep an eye out and have a crochet hook handy. 3. Worsted Weight - SMOOTH wool yarns. If your yarn is boucle, plied loosely, or splits easily, you will not get a good fabric out of this machine. Wool blends have worked amazing for me, but I have yet to try any of my higher-end wools on it for fear of ruining them. I would stick to acrylics until you're comfortable with how the machine works. Bulky yarn will not work well at all, you'll end up with a stiff chunky fabric that is a pain to keep on the needles. I haven't experimented with smaller weight yarns either, but your fabric will obviously turn out lacier than worsted. I have no idea why, but Red Heart Super Saver absolutely kills this machine. I've tried many combinations, and I am constantly dropping stitches when using this brand, and the machine makes a terrible clicking noise. It's baby melter yarn, so I can't say I'm disappointed, I just would have loved to mindlessly crank out tubes of the stuff for charity scarves since I have a lot of it sitting around. All-in-all, I'm pleased with this purchase, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid starter machine with a relatively low cost compared to professional machines of the same size.

This is such a fun upgrade from the Sentro 48 pin. This is quieter, and more enjoyable to use. I like that it is more flexible on yarns that I can use. I use size 5 yarns and it works well. I still use the sentro for the projects that will work well on it, or if I need the extra 2 pins. But I much prefer using this machine. There is a learning curve with using knitting machines in general. Figuring out how to use it without dropping stitches takes time. Learning how to make panels with clean edges is tricky. But I really enjoy learning new ways to make patterned or textured fabric in addition to the standard stockinette.

I received this knitting machine a couple of weeks ago, and have already knit 60 hats for charity. I did have some minor issues with the digital counter, but only when I tried to crank the handle too quickly. If I kept a reasonable pace and a steady motion, the counter worked perfectly. You'll need to look up start up and use instructions on YouTube, though. The printed materials are not very helpful. I did notice some tension/gauge difference in the knitted fabric, when adding in a new yarn. Nothing I did really made this issue go away, but I was able to limit the difference by always holding the yarn in the same place (down along the side of my hip) throughout each project. I tested the machine with different kinds and weights of yarn--plied worsted, single-ply worsted, single-ply Aran, and plied sport weight. Worsted and sport, both single-ply and plied, worked great. The machine did not perform as well with the single-ply Aran I used. The machine kept skipping stitches, seems the needles didn't catch the yarn very well. I did try two hats in bulky weight, but the heavier yarn caused the machine to perform extra sluggishly, and I fear I may have bent the main red circular piece, just slightly, so there is a clicking noise now. Still works great, but the noise is a little annoying. I do not recommend using bulky weight yarn (even though the two hats I made were amazing). Overall, this purchase was a great value. I used up 60+ skeins of wool in two weeks, which I never would have done by knitting or crocheting by hand. If you are wanting to knit hats or tube scarves for charity, super fast, an Addi Express is a very smart purchase.

I'm still in a learning curve, but overall I really like it. I first got the 48 needle Sentro and really had problems getting cast on and missing stitches ect. After getting the 46 needle Aldi, I had an easier time with casting on. I do not regret the Sentro purchase, I will be using again and thinking about purchasing the size smaller for use in certain projects. Knitting machines overall have a learning curve, but I have arthritic fingers and regular knitting just hurts. This is a reasonable alternative for a pastime I enjoy in my retirement. The Aldi overall is the better quieter machine as far as quality but I can't really knock the Sentro. Starting out I'd say buy the Aldi. But Sentro is great as a second cheaper machine.

Worked to make 3 beanies out of some fairly thick 100% wool yarn. It wasn’t perfect though, I’m not sure if it’s that I was using thick yarn, though from what I could tell this machine is supposed to handle even thicker but I had quite a bit of loud popping noises I believe was the gear skipping teeth, so that worried me but it did work. Not that hard to figure out after watching a YouTube video. Overall I’m happy with the finished beanies but not too confident in its durability and that it’s going to hold up with time. The last beanies took about 45 minutes all together so it’s pretty fast to use. I’d still recommend!

I make about 150 hats for charity for the last 6 years. Not one problem.

I was beyond disappointed in this machine. My first attempt appeared to be trouble free. I knitted half a skein (about 100 yards) of Plymouth Encore Colorspun 75% Acrylic 25% Wool. I was thrilled. It was fast and made a great tube. That was the end of my thrill. I attached some good old 4ply worsted 100% Wool (same weight ) from Red Heart and the problems began. Bad part is I did not see it until I was finished knitting the other 100 yards. When I took my piece off the machine there were so many dropped stitches all over the fabric my whole hat was ruined. My objective was patterned yarn on one side of the hat and the solid on the inside making the hat reversible. I am a long time knitter so my yarn was not a loss I simply unraveled it as I knit the hat by hand. I purchased the machine primarily to knit tubes of wool for dying sock blanks. I suppose I could do it with the dropped stitches anyway but since these blanks would be for sale I just could not bring myself to sell dyed blanks that were not perfectly knitted. The machine itself is totally plastic as far as I could see. It is noisy to run and sounds like an old time rickety lawnmower. I could tolerate that if it produced good fabric. Alas It did not. It only does stockinette so there is virtually no pattern to your project. I do not fault the machine for that because I knew that going in. The stitches dropped were too numerous and so spread out on the fabric ... the only remedy was rip it out and start over. I had no counter issues like others had. Nor did I have any yarn jams. That being said I was not going very fast because I was interested to see if the stitches were being dropped. Even at that I did not catch it until it had already happened too many times to correct. I had already read about the static and researched for product to remedy that situation. In the end some of that product is corrosive to plastic and I did not want to do that in case I had to return the machine. I was in this machine twice ... first time for the patterned yarn and the second for the white wool ... when I removed the hat and found all of the dropped stitches on the solid white wool section I decided the machine was going back. I got my return authorization (the company gave me no problem and was speedy). Then I found it was going to cost me $35 to return. My decision them because did I want to take a loss on or was I willing to deal with dropped stitches. Finally I decided the aggravation of the dropped stitches was not worth my time or the $35 to see if there was a possible remedy for the problem encountered. It ended up my time was worth more than the $35 loss. So back it went. I have a big bulky flat bet knitting machine but thought this would be a nice machine to make the tubular sock blanks for dying. I was disappointed it did not work for me.

Very satisfied with this Addi after experiencing a big disappointment with another brand. Works well with many different brands and types of yarn. I had bought the other brand's 48 needle for a Christmas gift for a disabled friend that turned out to be big disappointment. The cheaper brand machine dropped stitches and very few yarns would work. It no longer was functional after making 6 hats. This Addi is everything the other brand fails at. Knitting machines should be fun and not frustrating and Addi comes through. Good quality and smooth operation. There is no binding and popping like I experienced on the other brand. Well over 20 hats and still going strong. The only negative I would say is the tensioner gets in the say when casting on and the tensioner does not always keep equal tension. I plan on ordering an aftermarket tensioner for the Addi. Highly recommend you spend the extra money for the Addi. You won't be disappointed.

I already own a couple of flatbed knitting machines and had thought about getting a circular knitting machine for a while but they had been out of stock from Amazon for ages too. Now the price has come down to a sensible one it was worth getting one. This arrived quickly and safely via Amazon UK and it’s very simple to use. Everything is made of plastic which surprised me, it’s very lightweight. But it does the job well. It comes with 2 metal clamps and spare needles, 2 stoppers in a box for flat panel knitting and a plastic needle for casting off (there’s a hole on the top of the machine for storing this little red needle). I’d recommend taking your time and hold your yarn softly as it knits, there is no tension device just your fingers. It does have an essential row counter mine is mechanical and easy to reset by turning it back to zero. It does clank and you will feel resistance as it goes over the counter mechanism inside as you crank the handle, but this is normal. Watch some YouTube videos to help you get started, it’s a great design though I’ve found some yarns are easier to knit with than others (I’ve found DK yarns seem to knit easily where thicker yarns like chunky could easily drop a stitch, just watch the needles at the front to see it’s got the yarn, if it slips over it that’s when you drop a stitch) dropped stitches can be rescued though, see YouTube videos on this, you’ll need a crochet hook to reknit it back up. I’m still learning with it and I’ve also purchased the smaller Addi 22 to make smaller items like socks, this one is great for hats and scarves made quickly. Changing the yarn colour is easy too. It comes with instructions but no patterns to get you started but look on YouTube for inspiration. For a woman’s lined beanie hat I knitted 140 rows, no shaping needed, knitted in 30 minutes. I made a long tube scarf too in no time from one ball of yarn. Take your time, don’t ever force the crank to turn if the yarn feels too tight or turn the crank backwards in circular mode (there’s a switch on the side) and enjoy.

It took me a few tries to work it out but it does exactly what it's meant to do. I found the instructions a bit unclear but there's plenty of other videos explaining how to do it, which is great
