is this wired? why does it mention wifi and battery life in description

This is wired. The description belong to the wireless ones. They have messed it up.

Is the scroll wheel silent?

It depends how quickly you scroll. If you scroll fast, it's noisy, if you scroll slowly, you can do so silently.

Is there normally an issue with the left click that it hits the side of the mouse when you click? Or is it just something my mouse has?

I never had this problem, and after you asked i checked the mouse, the design shouldnot allow this to happen as its curved from inside on both the click part and the side part, i even held it from the middle to push it towards the side n clicked, it slips smootly along the wall giving a smooth click.But with your mouse it could possibly be a manufacturing error, which is also very rare, if you have disassembles it then might have not been assembled back in a correct place. Other then that its a design flaw, n hopefully if you contact the company they would replace it as it comes with a warrenty.Hope this answers your question :))

Do I need to install a driver or software to use the mouse? I need it for work but am not allowed to install any extra drivers or software.

I have one for home pc and you simply plug and play. Any doubts ask your IT people. Manual says it works with Windows 2000 through to Windows 10. No mention of Mac products.
