Excellent waffle maker
Wow! I spent months reading reviews for waffle makers! So long I was surprised not to have nightmares of being baked in one! And finally settled on the Salter. Many reviews are based on the end result, rather than the maker itself, which is not truly fair. Bad mix and bad following of instructions are no reason to lose stars! Especially as the mix is not the fault of the waffle maker, which is, in essence just a batter toaster! It literally takes raw batter and cooks it the way a toaster does to already cooked bread! As soon as I got this out the box I could feel quality. Those who could not, sorry, I can only think you may have got knock off ones. This is heavy and well made. The side photo shows how thick the actual batter plates are. The clip that locks the maker (of which some had said was badly made) is sturdy and well made. Works really well. I have tried two different waffle recipes, and on my fourth lot of waffles. And they have got thicker and better the more I have learned. 1. Make sure the waffle maker is HOT. At least 6 minutes! 2. Make the batter the night before! So that it can sit and do what the gluten needs to do for light waffles. (Remember! A waffle is a type of bread! Treat it well and it will rise well!) 3. Oil it before you fill it. Using the spray oil liberally here is good! Forget dieting. You are making waffles! 4. Cook it long enough. The last lot took a full 10 minutes, and could have done with 2 more. This makes THICK waffles! Not crapes! (For my first mix I only needed six minutes! But I could tell with the over night mix how thick it had gotten! I could literally see it! The thicker your batter, the longer the cooking time needed) Patience, patience, patience! To often we want now! You want good waffles, learn patience! (I know cos I am too!) See how thick they are in the photo! These are HUGE. Just one is 2 and a half times the amount you get in 3 shop size waffles! (Yup, literally!) And nearly twice as thick! Two should do most appetites. If you want crisp, DO NOT STACK! The steam softens them if they are piled on top of each other! Try toasting the finished article if you want really crisp (no, not tried yet. Will write here when I do!) Put separately on a wire rack if doing many. This cleans really well, just wipe with kitchen towel. So far no spills. Only tip batter on slowly, and in the middle first. Do not over full. Just so the waffle base, the square bits is literally just covered (or less) This is a cracking not so little waffle maker! The cord is rather short, Do not wind tightly round itโs housing, do it loosely. Or itโs life will not last. I am now thinking using some corn flour in my batter mix; will help make them even more crisp. (For example in a recipe of two cups flour, remove 1/4 cup flour and replace with cornflour) The recipes I used one off the net and one out of a cook book. Both worked well. The ONLY disappointment was it comes with 1 sheet of instructions and NO recipes. That, I felt was rude of Salter. And I did not feel valued, only done! Surely if you spend good money they can at the very least, include a link to recipes of theirs online! Oh, if you register with Salter you get a longer Warrantee too!

Great double waffle maker โ quick, easy & consistent results!
The Salter Double Waffle Maker โ Non-Stick Dual is ideal for a student house. Itโs really easy to use, heats up quickly, and being able to make two waffles at once is great when more than one person wants breakfast. The non-stick plates work well, so the waffles come out easily and cleaning up after is quick โ which is a big plus in shared accommodation. It doesnโt take up too much space either, so itโs easy to store when not in use. Overall, itโs good quality, simple, and great value for money. Perfect for quick breakfasts or late-night waffle cravings in a student house

So far so good.
Bought this a few months ago and so far so good. I've used it maybe 10 times with consistent results. I switch it on for 5 mins before using. There are various batter recipes on the internet and results for these waffles will vary depending on what you go for. I've tried a few and now my go to is the Nigella one although I don't put sugar into the mix as the toppings are the sweetener. The batter is decent and can be made the night before. I fill both to just about covered the little squares. What I also do (and only attempt if confident enough) is hold with a tea towel and quicky filp it upside down to allow batter to fully get everywhere maybe 30 secs. I flip back and leave for 5 mins or so and check how things are doing. Straight of the heat they can feel a little limp but will firm up slightly as they cool a little. Really good with smoked bacon and maple syrup. I give it a quick spray with fry light but a few times I haven't and had no issues with sticking. Easy to clean Only drawback is it does take a while to cook a batch if doing a family load of them. I have on occasion made 8 and then give them 30 seconds in the toaster to warm through again so people can eat together.

I'd give it zero stars if I could
I'd give it zero stars if I could. First one we got worked once and stopped working. We asked for a replacement and got sent one. It's now broken after using five times. Don't waste your money!

Excellent waffle maker
Brilliant waffle maker. Makes huge, deep, very filling crispy waffles. Feels well made. I love the Salter brand. It doesnโt come with any recipes but I really recommend the one in my pic (taken from my previous waffle maker). Preheat the machine for about 10 mins before pouring in any mixture. Use a silicone brush to give light covering of oil. Important - leave the mixture to sit in the bowl for between 15 mins to overnight before pouring it into the machine. This allows the flour to hydrate, the gluten to relax, and the baking powder to start releasing bubbles, overall leading to a lovely thick mixture and therefore thick waffles. Cook for 7-8 mins (these are big waffles!). Serve with maple syrup and chopped strawberries - delicious!!!

Cheap but painfully mediocre performance
The good: 1. Lightweight and compact - easy to carry around the kitchen and doesn't take up a lot of space. 2. No fuss - plug in the waffle maker, indicator light turns on and machine heats up. However, the machine itself does not have a switch to turn on/off, you'd have to plug/unplug from the socket each time. 3. Clipped lid - good for storage and while making the waffles, you can shut it nice and tight. Cons: 1. Extremely slow to heat up and cook the waffles, each pair takes around 10 mins to reach an edible yellow-coloured state. Even then, the upper side of the waffles would be poorly heated and you'd have to flip them - which is another 10 mins MINIMUM. After you've done your first set of waffles, the next would still take equally as long to make since the heat dissipates once the lid is opened; giving me the impression that either 900W is not sufficient or that the heating rods in this machine is subpar. 2. Uneven heating - top compartment likely does not have heating rods; see above comment. If you want nice golden brown waffles you're better off getting a better machine. This waffle maker takes dog years to heat up and thoroughly cook the batter. Regardless of price, it just isn't good at doing its job.

takes time to get get right
There's a learning curve with this appliance and I'm not there yet. I've had three attempts and each time I improve, but none of them have been excellent. It's not batters fault - I just can't get them as crispy as I would like, and that's the pans fault. I'll keep try but am not as excited by this purchase as I hoped I would be.

Broke first use & has UK plug
This product is terrible. 1 star is too kind. My kids love waffles and this was a share Christmas present for them to make waffles. On first use screws fell from the middle exposing wires. This was after tge product arrived, shipped quickly from Australia but with a UK plug. Horrible experience. You should pay my kids double for their crap Christmas present.
