Really good first GPS running watch - it's very much aimed at Runners!
I deliberated over pretty much every GPS training watch available before making the decision to purchase this one. I had a brief, unsuccessful experience with FitBit's Charge HR, and was getting tired of running with my phone - so after a lot of research I chose the M400.I have been using this now for 4 days. I bought to gain more information about my runs, and to hopefully use as a tool to improve my 5 and 10k times.1) Looks - I considered the Garmin 310xt, as these are available for around £100 now. The price is attractive, but they look quite big and quite dated. In comparison, the M400 is pretty modern looking. You can choose various faces to have on display at all times, for example BIG face which displays the time in a BIG font, or analog - or if you wish, there are 2 other options related to information to the time and your activity that day. BIG is my favourite. Overall the watch doesn't feel too large or intrusive, however for women or folks with skinny wrists to be honest, YMMV.2) GPS - I read some mixed reviews about GPS with this watch. Bear in mind when you sync the watch with the Polar Flow desktop application (more on that later) an A-GPS file is downloaded to your watch and lasts for 14 days. This allows for fast positioning and lock of satellite signal. How fast? Well, I've only been using this a few days, but I can get a GPS signal within about 10 seconds. How accurate? I have had no issues. I've ran a 5k, 6x400 meter intervals, and a 8km hilly run on seperate days and variable cloud cover, building proximity, and each time the GPS has been bang on in my estimation.3) Heart Rate - I had a major problem with the FitBit and their Optical wrist based Heart Rate Monitoring - anything above 150bpm, in my experience, and it couldn't cope. There's no match here, the Polar comes with the H7 Bluetooth chest strap HRM. Synching this upto the watch is a breeze, and HR tracking is fast and accurate. One note - if you want to wear the strap all day, the watch won't give you a constant reading of your heart rate - it's only displayable when the watch is in Sports Mode. Compared to the Fitbit, that's a bit of a difference, but I couldn't imagine wearing the a chest strap outwith exercise.4) Activity Tracking - This is actually quite cool. I'm quite into hitting a certain amount of steps/activity each day. Based on your profile, the watch will challenge you each day to a prescribed amount of activity; Walking, "up" (which i think means time on your feet), or running. It will tell you your steps, your activity time & calories burned. For example, if you are 20% short of meeting your goal for that day, the watch will suggest the times you need to walk or run for to meet the goal. It's quite motivational.5) Polar Flow - This is where Polar as a company really start to earn their stars. Polar Flow is available for desktop, android and IOS. I've an Android phone, you can sync with polar flow over Bluetooth, and the phone will display a trimmed down version of your stats. The desktop version (accessible via a browser) is where the app comes into it's own. After synching post-exercise, the amount of data available is fantastic. You can really dig deep into your route, your times and heartrates along the way - additionally, you can setup your own workout routines, or you can subscribe to a Polar program for 5k, 10k, Half and Full Marathon. The app will suggest recovery times based on your last session also.OK, I've been going on a bit here but:Pro's:A modern looking watchGood battery life (weeks in activity mode, 8hrs in GPS mode)Synching via bluetooth to android, or via USB to desktop is a breezeInteraction with Google Fit, Strava and MyFitnessPalMotivational activity trackerAccurate GPSPolar are well known for their strength in HRM technologyWaterproofConsIt's not possible to create and sync a workout based on 'Pace' (i.e - run 5K at a pace of 4mins per kilometre) - that's only with the V800Polar Flow will only allow an Interval based workout of a max of 20 steps. There is sleep data on the Activity Tracker, but I can't sleep wearing a watchSeparate HRM chest strap, may not work for everyone - but that makes the readings so much more reliable than OHR monitoringThanks for reading

Great bit of kit.
What a fantastic bit of kit. Only had this now a couple of days, been out for a couple of runs with it and it works a treat. Never used a HRM before so took a bit of time to get that attached to me comfortably. The watch picks up GPS signal quickly, the HRM was easy to SYNC to the watch, just a couple of clicks and it remembers when ever you need it again. After each activity it gives you the stats, which include the distance, time, laps etc.. it will also tell you when you have broken one of your records, and give you a summary of how that activity has affected your overall fitness. There is also the option to set the watch you to give you a finish time - just tell it how far you are going and it will tell you how long at your current pace it will take you.The daily tracker monitors your movements and keeps a track of your steps, and you can see how many steps you have taken during the day, with a handy reminder if you have not moved for an hour. It also tells you what you need to do to make up your recommended movements. There is the ability to set up different sporting profiles, so for me I have Running - which has settings for GPS, HRM, lap distance. Walking which has GPS, lap distance and return to start function. You can set up multiple profiles that all tell the watch to work slight differently. The return to start is a nifty tool, that will give you an arrow and distance to where you started from - it will not give you a route back!!The settings are easy to follow, setting the watch up with your personal statistics, and choice of watch faces, and the ability to lock the buttons. The downfall for me is the website - it is not as easy to use and view your runs than the Garmin Connect, or the Fitbit site is to check your daily steps. But it does have a handy calendar where you can see all your activities for a day and your daily steps. You are able to SYNC the watch via Bluetooth to a suitable mobile phone with the installed APP. But the list of phones is very limited and are at the higher price range. So my phone does not SYNC, and it will not even let me download the APP so I can just view the data on my phone. The one positive on the website I like is the RELIVE option, when you upload the data from the watch to the website, it will bring up a map of where you started and will show you the highlights of your activity, and will even use Google street view to show you the points of interest. The watch itself looks good, its not over bulky and has a descent strao

The most accurate heart monitor I've owned.
The most accurate heart monitor I've owned. Tracks distance as well and the GPS works well. I don't use most of the other bells and whistles but there is one bell I'd like to have. I can't get it to beep when I reach my heart rate threshold. Other than that I am happy with it.
